Dear Friends of EOA,

I have some exciting news to share. As of May 1st, 2019, I will be closing EOA and starting a new position as Studio Director at FX Collaborative.

EOA began in 1996 and it has been a wonderful, 23-year, life-altering experience to design and create architecture and interiors for our clients. It has been a privilege to work with my in-house team and our outside consultants. These collaborations have taken ideas from sketches to reality. The projects we created together are a source of professional pride.

I am looking forward to continuing to work in this same creative and collaborative way with my new colleagues at FXCollaborative.

You can reach me at my new address: [email protected]

I look forward to hearing from you and to many more projects together.

Below is a list of people who made coming to the office everyday pure fun. Thank you for all your hard work and effort on EOA’s behalf.

Thought for the rest of our todays from George Grant Elmslie, architect and Robin's great uncle:

Shall we be cultured aesthetes and dilly dally with our jobs or put on our dungarees and learn the significance of architecture by laying stone and brick for a while, mixing mortar and sawing wood. Learn the strength and durability of materials; know of society and its myriad needs and aspirations. Read fairy stories; read Keats, Shelley and Whitman. Absorb a sound and understanding knowledge of the incredible inventions of our day and go to it. There are no fixed formulas; no dry standards; no such thing as composition. There is only one thing to achieve and that is an architectural organism. Composition is dead; an organization is alive…vivid…responsive to conditions; and eloquent of the spiritual association of function and form. Travel the frank and courageous road whereon may be seen the real contributions to ages gleaming in the sunshine.

FROM INTERIOR DESIGN MAGAZINE on the death of Karl Lagerfeld: "Robin Osler, principal of EOA/Elmslie Osler Architect says of the designer, "When I was living in Paris and working in the fashion industry as a model, I recall going on an appointment to see Karl Lagerfeld at Chloé. I was slightly terrified because even then he was larger than life—a personality that owned the room. He was a formidable force from the very beginning and was renowned for being in love with his work and the world at large. His curiosity was insatiable and he was admirable in his ability to shift with the times. He was constantly seeking out what was modern because it literally fed him. I certainly admired his energy and his will. He was someone who refused to settle into any sort of set pattern because of his desire to explore ideas—any and all—and that is inspiring to me."

The focus of many renovation projects in New York City becomes about clever ways to bring light into a space. This goal applies not only to residential but also to commercial architecture. One solution EOA offered to a client in SoHo was a skylight in their meeting room. The result was illuminating in more ways than one.
