Project Sangha, Yangon. WIP. Inspired by the history of collective housing in South Asia, the project proposes collective functions to improve people relationships, promote culture, and preserve heritage while simultaneously implementing accessibility to resources and services. Sharing resources is at the center of an environmental strategy that allows the community living in the units to recycle materials and water, promoting a community-led housing practice. The construction of this project focuses on renewable local resources such as Pyinkado (Xylia Dolabriformis) timber, a dense and strong hardwood grown in large quantities in the region for the structure, locally sourced bricks for the envelope, metal for the roofing material, and the cladding of the collective modules.
