Thinking about buying this house, but this has me a bit worried.

This area is directly below the ensuite shower, and my first thought is a past leak. Could it be a simple repair, or might the shower need to be torn out and rebuilt?

For those with experience, is this the kind of issue that can become a major expense, or am I jumping to worst-case scenarios?

Got asked if I was tackling ice this weekend... nope 😎

Just wrapped up servicing the AC units and getting everything dialed in. Not the most thrilling project, but definitely one of the most appreciated when the temps climb. ❄️👌

Seeking input from plumbers, contractors, and homeowners.

A plumbing contractor recently installed an underground copper line and said leaving it in direct contact with the soil is fine. I asked if the pipe should be sleeved, wrapped, or otherwise protected, and was told I was overthinking it.

The job cost about $4,900, so I want to be sure it will hold up long term. The disagreement escalated and now we are at a standstill.

Are my concerns justified, or is this a common installation practice I just was not familiar with?

Paid $12,500 for a new driveway and accidentally commissioned a giant concrete sculpture. 😅

The finish has such dramatic swirls and trowel marks it looks like the slab paused mid-migration toward the garage. Friends keep calling it unique, which is not what you want to hear after paying for a driveway.

At this point I’m tempted to put up a little sign and charge admission. 🧱

Carpenter apprentice here, looking for feedback on a fence job.

There’s a mature tree right on the property line, so I laid out the fence to jog around it instead of removing the tree. The run is straight and level, and the detail at the tree leaves room for future growth while reducing the risk of damage down the line.

The client is unhappy that the layout isn’t perfectly symmetrical and says it looks off compared to what they expected. I explained that trees keep growing and that building around them is often the most practical long-term choice.

Does this seem like a reasonable install, or would you expect a redesign?

📐 It’s what’s underneath that counts. A lot of people focus on the top boards, but the real magic is right here. Getting all the heavy-timber structural ties, joist hangers, and heavy-duty tension anchors secured to make this structure completely rock-solid.

No shortcuts on structural integrity here; overbuilt is always the right way to build. Plus, seeing all that steel hardware perfectly lined up is incredibly satisfying. 🔩💪
