Got a late start to the season, so we cheated and bought some starter plants for the tomatoes, peppers, zucchini and squash. The rest were seeds. We’ll see how we do and and how the soil from our compost pile performs. Rain. Are in after we were done to help water everything.

I thought this was pretty interesting. The bees attacked the syrup as soon as I poured more in the feeder box. You could watch them walk down the board and stick their mouths into the syrup.

The last photos are of some burr comb (comb built in The wrong place) I removed. I couldn’t get the bees off it. lol

Checked the hives today and added another brood box to the Karen hive. Putting the feed box back on last week was a goo...

Checked the hives today and added another brood box to the Karen hive. Putting the feed box back on last week was a good move. They made huge progress last week.

Both boxes on the Amy hive are packed. I might be able to add a honey super next week. They are doing really well - even if they have a bad attitude. lol I might get some honey from this hive if they continue to do this well through the summer.

Little late, but finally getting our raised beds filled. Tried to get top soil delivered but we are too far out in the country, so we hauled it ourselves and used all the compost we made over the winter. Probably could have used a little more dirt, as they will probably settle, but this should get us through this season.

Now hopefully we can get something started this late and still have some veggies in the fall.

Cutting out the pieces for the walnut paper towel holder. Originally planned to do this on the bandsaw. But after designing the template decided to go full CNC.

Future Mushroom plot!!!

Working on the logs for our mushroom farm. The big maple tree branch that feel a few weeks ago is now ready for mushroom innoculations. We cut the branch up and saved 5 good size logs for the 1st bed. Ideally I’d like to have 15 logs - 5 per type of mushroom. But this will get us started.

Next step - Drill, insert plugs with mushroom spores, seal, wax, water and wait. We might see some Mushrooms this fall, but most likely won’t get anything until next spring. We will plant Shiitake, Blue Oyster and Lions Mane varieties. This 1st bed will start out with a mix. Then when I get more fresh logs I’ll separate them so each bed is dedicated to one type.

Working on a walnut paper plate holder design. Cleaned up and flattened my boards. Then I took my design and asked AI to give me a photo realistic rendering so I can see the proportions. I need to work on my AI prompts and directions. It got close but not quite right. But it let me see the concept without building a a mockup.

Flood almost took out my bee hives

After seeing the damage around my hives I did a little investigation. I found where the creek flooded behind the hive, and was diverted by an old steel beam on the fence line - right to my hives. I got lucky there was no serious damage to the hives.
