I've had these Syngonium variegated Batik cuttings in water for waaaay too long. I've already had a few pieces rot so I can't procrastinate any longer but I have no idea where they're going to go once they're potted up.

Maybe I should get some sort of greenhouse set up at the new place until we're ready to move in.
How often do you think I'd need to check on them if they were in a plastic greenhouse outdoors?

Nothing goes to waste around here! I try propagate just about every piece possible. 😁

Check out this progress on a broken piece of Maranta from a month ago!

One of our local garden centers had some fun Syngoniums! None of these are super rare but they definitely are harder to find.

Which one's your favorite?

My indoor Croton is blooming AGAIN!Not that I need another project but maybe I'll try to pollinate it this time!

Did I NEED 100 plant themed temporary tattoos?

Nope.

Did I use my 2 year old granddaughter's new found obsession for temporary tattoos as an excuse to buy them anyway?

Absolutely 😂🤷‍♀️

6 weeks ago I chopped a few of my Syngoniums back all the way after discovering they had some dry rot on their roots.

My Syngonium angustatum 'Little Star' is finally starting to grow again after the big chop and this new leaf is gorgeous! 😍

Syngoniums are tropical plants that grow fine hair-like roots off of their main roots. These 'root hairs' help maximize water and nutrient absorption but shrivel and die quickly if they dry out for very long. The plant can be kept alive by the main root system but will rapidly begin to lose older leaves without those fine roots helping pull up water.

Unfortunately my plants were drying out faster than I thought and the majority of the hair-like roots had dried up and died leading to ugly bald-headed plants.
I chopped them, am propagating some of the cuttings, and cleaned up the butt-cuts (the bottom nodes still connected to the root system) and put them in self watering pots to help avoid them ever fully drying out.

Chopping established plants that you've had for years can be hard but they almost always come back even better!

I've always kind of rolled my eyes when I see people post about a very unhappy plant saying 'it was fine yesterday!'

Plants rarely decline that fast but it does happen! I've only personally seen it one other time but I knew exactly what the problem was.

This time I have no idea. This Syngonium tricolor confetti was absolutely FINE last night when I watered it. Now it's not. The roots don't look rotten but I'll pull it out of the pot later and see if I can figure out what's going on.

Have you ever had a plant try to die on you overnight?

It's been a long stressful few days so we stopped at Straders yesterday to get a quick dopamine hit. I didn't need to add to my list of chores so I just took pictures and didn't buy a plant 😢
I did get some U-shaped bamboo trellises and some clear pots and got pictures of these gorgeous Begonias! 😍

I don't think I've ever seen a Raven ZZ leaf this big!
