Dark and dated to bright and fresh. If I could lay out the perfect project for a client it would be this: we get a call to discuss a potential project. Client talks about everything they want to accomplish and the budget they want to accomplish it in. Those two areas don't always meet up, but they can be achieved with some good design and a little compromise. Client hires us to do the design and help make selections. Work commences and everyone is happy!
This client built their home 17 years ago, times, tastes and needs change over that period of time. They wanted an updated kitchen, new floors and a new master bath. In our process we convinced our homeowner to not tear out their beautiful hardwoods, but rather refinish them to a lighter, more neutral tone. While we didn't deliver the popular wide plank look, but they saved a ton of money by keeping what they had and updating it.
We modified the kitchen layout to house one big island, rather than a it's current partial wall with stools and a kitchen table and chairs. We gave them more cabinet storage without really changing much of the footprint.
The master bathroom was updated to a more current, classic look, while adding a larger shower, complete with body sprays and niches for storage. We took advantage of the large space, without making major framing alterations which equates to budget savings.
We added lighting everywhere we could to brighten up both spaces.
The end result was a smooth process, clients with expectations met and functional, beautifully finished spaces that will last them for the duration of their time in their home.
Thanks to the Thompson family for sharing their home with us for a couple of months!
