LONG POST-but I hope it helps a few folks!
**If you’re interested in purchases of any of the tubers below, my top recommendations are Dahlias on Dartmouth, Susan’s Dahlias, and Stark Farms. (No disrespect to anyone else, these are the ones I just have the most experience with).
Since I can only grow around 40 at a time now (maybe more in the future, we’ll see how they do here in SWFL) and I promised a list of what I’m growing, here it is!! These aren’t all the originals I had planted last month, unfortunately I did have to replace some because I did lose a few to rot (I planted some too deep) and a couple from some sellers were blind. There’s an explanation next to each one as to why I chose it. If you have any questions, feel free to ask! These are in no particular order.
Peachy Parade…it was a very pretty flower and had a long vase life compared to some others.
Snoho Jojo…also a very pretty flower, and very versatile, excellent cut flower.
RobinHood…an absolutely gorgeous flower that is super prolific and has exceptional stems.
A “pink yellow small ball” Dahlia that is a mystery that I got from Amanda Stark last year, it was absolutely gorgeous, and it had beautiful stems, hopefully I can ID it this season since I forgot to take photos and ask her.
Snoho Doris…anyone who knows me knows I absolutely love this flower. It’s gorgeous, prolific and has nice stems. It’s definitely a tried and true. A top pick.
Cinder Rose…Just beautiful…very nice stems for a cut flower.
Lee’s pink grapefruit…simply because it’s different and it was prolific!
BQ Blush…it’s really just stunning, there isn’t much like it imo, I simply enjoy the flower and the beautiful purple outline on the petals.
BQ Mojo…also very prolific and very pretty pink.
Levi’s dreamwalk…in my opinion so far, one of my favorite flowers that I’ve grown from Levi, super prolific, and a very nice cut flower.
20th for mom…hands-down the prettiest pink Dahlia I grew, the stems were absolutely phenomenal. It wasn’t super prolific, but I’d like to see how it does in this climate.
20th Ave. softer peach…in my opinion, probably one of the best flowers all around, prolific, excellent cut flower and very versatile. A top pick.
20th old major…also prolific, excellent stems.
Irish moon…this is a new one to me from Stark Farms, I can’t wait to grow it.
Susan’s pretty in pink…a seedling from Susan’s dahlias in Hanson, very pretty pink and makes a nice cut flower and is very hearty.
RM Pink Sugar…is new to me, but I think it’s pretty so let’s see how it does!
Weserton JWH…is also new to me, but I think it’s gorgeous so let’s see how that one does
Camano Pet…if you know me, you know this is probably one of my favorite yellow dahlias, it’s just gorgeous, super prolific and does really well in a vase. A top pick.
Miss Amara…simply gorgeous, beautiful stems, and a very nice cut flower.
Irish blackheart…I love it because it’s so different, I find it a little bit difficult to use in bouquets, but it’s so prolific that you can literally do a vase full of these flowers off one plant.
HH masquerade…bloomed late for me last season, but it was just absolutely gorgeous so I can’t wait to see what it does this season.
Saddlerock tiny giant…bloomed late last season because it was cutting I planted late, but I just got a new tuber of it from Stark Farms and we will see how it does. It’s a gorgeous flower and I had beautiful stems.
Jowey Frambo…beautiful pink flower, very prolific.
CT Koi…this is how I feel about most of the Coseytown flowers…they’re super prolific, excellent stems, and I really like the color on this one because it’s a little bit different.
Rosie Jo…is simply one of my favorites because it’s not pink and it’s not maroon. I don’t know what you call it but it’s gorgeous and it produces a lot of flowers. Can’t go wrong with this one.
Parkland Rave…the pink is just gorgeous. It’s a different looking flower and I just really enjoy it in my arrangements.
Levi’s fiery plum…didn’t bloom beautifully for me last season because it happened to be in a section where I had some ongoing pest issues, so I’m giving it another chance this season because the blooms I did get were stunning.
Westerton Ella Grace…just a superb flower, gorgeous, and excellent stems.
Robann Royal… is a beautiful purple, I didn’t get many blooms last year because unfortunately, the first two I planted rotted after hard rain, so we’re trying it again this season!
CT parasol…if you followed me last year, you saw many pictures of this, same thing as most of the CT’s, beautiful, stems, prolific, and an excellent tuber producer. Top pick.
Lakeview Lucky…this is one that didn’t do so well for me last season, but we’re going to give it a shot because it’s a beautiful flower and I’m curious how it will do in the humidity here!
Camano Buzz… is an amazing orange, super prolific, and I’m excited to have it in my garden again.
BQ pumpkin…extremely prolific, beautiful, orange, and the perfect size for arrangements.
Sylvia…just tried and true. Very versatile.
Belle of Barmera…Is absolutely huge and gorgeous, and just one that I like to have cut to stare at in my kitchen. I don’t know how it will do here in the humidity, but we’re going to give it a shot. I’m not sure this one will bloom before I have to pull my dahlias with the summer heat.
Janicks Symphony…was a gift to me and is right in my color scheme so I can’t wait to see how this one grows.
Hapet old charm…I wanted to give this one a shot because unfortunately I bought this one last year and it was a mislabel so we’re giving it another go (courtesy of Dahlias on Dartmouth).
Raspberry cream…is a creation from my friend Kevin over at Susan’s Dalias…I loved it last season and can’t wait to see how it does here. It’s a very unique pink.
Coorabell Astrid…because I absolutely loved it. The color is gorgeous, the flowers, gorgeous, it’s beautiful and a vase, and I can’t wait to see how it does in this climate. Top Pick.
Hiller Tanunda…is a cutting I recently purchased and it arrived showing signs of pest damage with another (rare) cutting. HT made it, the other cutting didn’t (I should’ve asked for a refund, but didn’t but that’s a separate conversation) … so far she’s thriving while I’m hardening her off, so we will see how this baby does.
