As early as I can remember, my life has revolved around real estate. Going back to the early 90’s I can remember traveling with my mother, Latonya, to the rural area of Gresham, South Carolina, home to
my great grandparents, Joe and Ola-Lee Johnson. My great grandparents owned over 125 acres of land and several mobile homes used as residual income. Fast forward a few years, my grandmother, Kathleen Vaughan began obtaining rental properties just as her parents did. I remember riding with Kitty in her Chevy El Camino as she would roll through neighborhoods looking at homes for sale while I dreamed of purchasing real estate for myself one day. At that same time, my mother had accomplished her goal of becoming a real estate broker, opening her own office as well as my aunt Shunita becoming one the most successful investors and landlords I knew. Surrounded by nothing but thriving women, I thought to myself, ‘I can’t wait to conquer real estate!’ and the rest was history. I started my real estate journey in 2007 by becoming a license real estate agent. Let me tell you, I couldn’t have picked a worse time to jump into the market. By the end of 2007, we were in the worse financial crisis our country had seen in over a decade. Needless to say, I did not have much success as a new agent in a crashing market. So, I placed my license on inactive status and began a career at the Shipyard. In early 2016 I knew it was time for me to fulfill my childhood dream and became a licensed agent for the second time. This time, the market was on the rebound and I immediately started gaining clients. Within the first year I made over $70,000.00. Soon after, I decided to try my hand as a real estate investor by using the equity in my home to get me started. Today, I have sold over nine million in real estate with multiple deals pending. I did not know it at the time but deciding to follow my dreams, inspired by generations, was the best decision I could have made.
