Changing prefabricated pine underlay carpeted stairs to Oak finished Stairs -

Newly constructed homes with carpeted stairs hide an awful secret under them.. a pine stair case all but worthless absent a carpet to hide them. When homeowners finally decide they have had enough of the old carpet and look to rip it off they rather dismayed to find out what lies beneath, a snap together pre fabricated pine stair case riddled with unsightly knotty wood unfit for a barn let alone the entrance to a finished basement.

Rather than purchase a new stair case homeowners can opt to overlay their stairs with new Oak treads and risers. Sounds simple enough but not as simple as it would seem. Failure to properly finish off the unfinished wood and you are right back where you started with unsightly but more expensive stairs.

Finishing the unfinished Oak requires 6 revolutions of sanding, staining,application of polyurethane and wet sanding to get the final high gloss bowling alley finish and a good eye to match up stains accordingly.
