π•Šπ•₯π•ͺπ•π•šπ•Ÿπ•˜ π•π•šπ•Ÿπ•₯π•’π•˜π•– 𝕋𝕣𝕖𝕒𝕀𝕦𝕣𝕖𝕀

I’ve had a few people ask me what I’m going to do with all of the items I brought home from my parent’s house. In case you’re just catching up, my parents are moving to a retirement community and my sister and I went up there last weekend to sort through their belongings and start packing. As they downsize, hard decisions had to be made about what they can take and what they can’t.

The three girls were all allowed to take home some things that had sentimental value for us. I was a little worried about how that process would go, but we worked everything out amicably. 🀣 I, for one, feel very strongly that those π“ˆπ“…π‘’π’Έπ’Ύπ’Άπ“ things should not be sitting in a cupboard somewhere. π•Œπ•€π•– π•₯𝕙𝕖 π•€π•‘π•–π•”π•šπ•’π• π•₯π•™π•šπ•Ÿπ•˜π•€!

So here are some ways that I am starting to style the items that I brought home with me. If you want to see more of what I scored, check the two most recent videos on my profile. (Bonus: I was able to replace TWO Target items, and the sooner all that kind of stuff is out of my home the better.) Eventually I hope my entire house will be stuffed with secondhand treasures. And the treasures with family history? Even better.

𝕄π•ͺ π•€π•Ÿπ•™π•–π•£π•šπ•₯π•’π•Ÿπ•”π•–: ℙ𝕒𝕣π•₯ 𝟚

My parents are moving to a retirement community, and had to downsize their belongings. Last weekend we carefully sorted what they should pack, discard or pass on to family. Here is another round of what got passed on to me.

Little plastic candle holders that held every childhood birthday candle (my sisters and I each got five of these 🀣). My grandfather’s dog tags. A wooden chess set made by my dad. A β€œReal Scottish Plume” pin of my grandma’s (it’s giving Traitors). A sailboat my dad and I made together for a middle school project. Every item is a memory. I couldn’t possibly pick a favorite (but that chess set…. 😍).

My momβ€˜s handwriting on a Pyrex container. My grandfatherβ€˜s name engraved on a silver bowl. The 1951 Santa mug that my dad used as a child. A teapot my grandmother bought me when I was little. A tray I can’t remember not being in my parent’s kitchen.

These are a few of the things that I was able to take into my home as part of the process of packing and moving my parents to a retirement community. My sisters and I sorted through the things that they can’t take with them, and while I didn’t get all of the things that I wanted, they all found homes with one of us. These are some things that make me happy.

What a difference paint makes! Have you been afraid to tackle a furniture or cabinet paint project due to all of the daunting prep work? If so, I cannot recommend enough! No sanding, priming or sealing required which makes for an easy update. Great for any furniture or cabinet project to do a quick refresh or a total transformation.

Bye bye baskets…hello copper RepoussΓ© panels. At least I think that’s what these are called?

While most of you voted to keep the baskets, these were meant to go in the kitchen (also one of you mentioned the baskets can easily go in another room anyway so πŸ‘‹πŸΌ).

I do have a soft spot for this type of copper art. My parents had a family portrait done of us in the 80’s in copper like this. AND THEY THREW IT AWAY. I kid you not. What I would give to have that family portrait. πŸ₯Ί

Anyway, these are warm and beautiful and I’m really loving them right here. What about you?

My dear, sweet husband surprised me with a lava lamp. And not just any lava lamp… A 2 1/2 foot tall one. πŸ‘€

We were at our favorite neighborhood hang out (shout out ) and I was telling him how much their bar lava lamp brings me joy. My grandparents, Lawrence (aka Grandpa Pickle) and Irma, had one back in the 80s. I remember going to visit their house in a little town in Nebraska and kneeling in front of the lava lamp just to watch it do its thing. Oh, the nostalgia!

I did also have one of my own (black base with blue lava) in the 90’s that we bought from a Spencer’s at the mall. Where my fellow Gen Xers at? πŸ‘‹πŸΌ

Anyway, now I’ve got this one and I gotta say…I’m fine with people thinking it’s tacky. It’s all about the mems for me. ☺️
