Choosing the right interior door is about more than just the look.

It’s about how the door works in your space, how often it’s used, and how it fits your everyday lifestyle.

Here are 5 things to consider before choosing an interior door:

• Usage — Is it for a high-traffic area or a more private room?
• Material — Different materials can affect durability, weight, and overall feel.
• Sound control — Solid core doors can help reduce noise and add more privacy.
• Style & finish — The door should complement the interior, not compete with it.
• Opening type — Hinged or sliding doors can completely change how a space feels and functions.

The right door brings together design, function, and durability — and can make everyday living feel more comfortable.

If you’re planning a project or renovation, choosing thoughtfully from the start makes all the difference.

Millennium Series doors, custom jambs, and concealed hinges — all in progress.

This setup helps create a cleaner, more seamless interior look, especially for modern spaces where the goal is minimal and elevated design.

Custom jambs help everything fit the space properly, while concealed hinges keep the hardware hidden and let the door design stand out.

Why choose between exterior curb appeal and interior flow?

One of the biggest challenges in a custom build is matching the front door to both the outside of the house and the inside.
The solution? A split-finish door.

For this entry, we went with a bold, dark finish on the exterior to ground the facade, while keeping the interior side crisp and white to seamlessly blend with the indoor trim and brighten the space.

You don’t have to compromise your interior design for your exterior architecture. Westco Designer can customize both sides to fit exactly what the space needs.

5 Secrets to a flawless custom door order.

A beautiful design is only half the battle. To ensure a seamless installation and a high-end finish, the technical specs must be perfect.

Here are 5 insider secrets you need to know before placing your custom door order:

1. Always Order Pre-Hung Doors
Buying just a door slab might seem cheaper upfront, but paying a carpenter to mortise hinges on-site adds up fast. Ordering a pre-hung door guarantees a perfect factory-grade fit and saves hours of expensive labor.

2. Map the Swing Direction
Ordering the wrong swing direction is a classic headache. You never want your new door blocking a light switch or hitting a bathroom vanity. Always physically map out the exact handing on your floor plan before ordering.

3. Verify Your Wall Thickness
Not all walls are the same. Standard interior walls usually have 2x4 framing, but older homes or plumbing walls often use 2x6. Ordering the exact jamb width ensures your door casings sit perfectly flush against the wall for a flawless look.

4. Follow the 8-Foot Rule
If you have 9-foot ceilings or higher, do not settle for standard builder-grade doors. Upgrading to 8-foot doors draws the eye up, makes your ceilings feel taller, and instantly gives your home a custom architectural proportion.

5. Match Hinges to the Door Weight
Custom solid core doors are beautifully heavy, and standard hinges will cause them to sag over time. Always specify heavy-duty or ball-bearing hinges to keep the movement smooth and protect your floors.

Closet doors are often overlooked, but they play an important role in how a room functions and feels.

From bedrooms to hallways, the right closet door helps maintain clean lines, easy access, and visual balance. The goal isn’t to draw attention — it’s to make the space feel organized, calm, and intentional.

Choosing the right style and configuration can make a noticeable difference in everyday living, especially in spaces used daily.

In real projects, interior doors are rarely chosen first — but they often make the biggest difference in how a space feels.

✏️ Designers look at doors as part of the overall composition: proportions, sightlines, finishes, and how each room connects to the next. The right door doesn’t compete with the interior — it quietly supports it.

That’s why thoughtful door selection becomes a finishing touch that ties everything together, creating a space that feels intentional, balanced, and complete.

It’s hard to visualize the final result when you’re staring at bare studs and drywall.

Watch this space go from rough framing to a completely finished interior.

It’s amazing how much «heavy lifting» the right doors do for a room’s design. Before installation, it’s just an open footprint. After—it’s a home with defined spaces, privacy, and flow.

For this build, we installed crisp, modern white panels with matte black hardware. A timeless combo that instantly grounds the space.
