Holy bajeebers. Looks like I missed this one 🤭! I was poking around in my bean vines earlier today admiring all the teeny tiny Winged Beans that are a few days off from harvest 😊 Then while moving back the lower leaves I found this gorgeous large Winged Bean at the bottom of the vine. Their green color is the perfect camouflage 🌿.

I'm quite enjoying their unique beauty in the garden. Did you know that every part of the plant is edible? The leaves, flowers, beans, and roots. I've only tasted the bean pods so far. Quite tasty. They have a pleasant but strong green bean flavor. I'll definitely be growing this bean again.

Sweet little Winged Bean finally makes an entrance in the garden 😁 Such a wonderful surprise this morning. I had all but given up on the mid-April planting. And the periwinkle colored bloom is gorgeous šŸ’—

There's tons of flowers on the vine. Oh yeah 🄰

It's so lovely outside today. Bird's splashing around in the bird baths, intense bee activity, and hummingbirds playing. Finally starting to feel a little bit like Fall.

And, of course my Grandpa Ott's heirloom Morning Glory is definitely enjoying the cooler morning temps 😊

My fav wildflower! Chocolate Flower. The chocolate scent in the air this morning was especially strong. Made me take pause so I thought I'd share. Smell-o-vision where are you when we need you 😃

Next best thing... Grab your fav chocolate bar, open it, and take in the luscious aroma as you watch this short clip. Yes, the scent is that heavenly šŸ˜‹

Hope your day is filled with yummy aromas, too!

Yum, more late summer harvest for meals this week 😁 Very excited to chow on all this garden goodness.

What's in my garden grocery haul today?

* Spaghetti Squash (6 more outside šŸ˜‹) (1 for Pesto Spaghetti on Friday)
* Swiss Chard (for a roast, onion, & mushroom "stoup" tonight and salad tommorow)
* Snacking sweet peppers (salad tommorow)
* Cubanelle Peppers & couple small Jalapeno Peppers
(for stir fried cauliflower rice tommorow)
* Okra (went into my "stoup" tonight)
* White Egg Eggplant & Thai Green Eggplant (making dehydrated eggplant chips tommorow - so good with Bitchin' Sauce)
* Handful of the cutest little pearl onion bulbs (red & white) (for my salad tommorow and stir fried cauliflower rice for dinner tomorrow)
* Basil (for my salad and duck egg scramble)
* Handful of Dandelion leaves (for my šŸ„—)
* Seeds from a Purple Zinnia in the garden (well, just cuz I can šŸ¤—)

Hope this inspires you to grow AND eat some of your own food this Fall.

Harvest is amping up! Been harvesting fairly regularly thru the summer months. Some days more than others 😁.
Choosing edibles that can not only 'survive' the summer heat but actually 'thrive' and produce thru the summer is part of the magic. Growing in soil that is balanced and full of a diversity of life is key. Consistent and appropriate amounts of water and keeping roots/soil cool with ground cover or mulch is critical.
Hope you're feasting in your garden šŸ¤—

Watermelons, Spaghetti Squash and Honey Boat Delicata Squash. Sooooo looking forward to eating all of this deliciousness šŸ˜‹ (with more on the way).

Thru all the 114°F+ temps and dry growing conditions of our desert summer, there IS sweet reward!

Gourd Tunnel gone wild!!! The heat is kickin' things into gear 🤩 Luv it.

Sunflowers, front and center, planted not only for their beauty but for their ability to attract hoards of pollinators šŸ. Perfect for ensuring my Armenian Cucumbers, watermelons, winter squash, and gourds are properly pollinated and super productive.

My watermelons šŸ‰ are winding down and almost ready for harvest.

There it is. The first Cucuzzi female flower. Finally! I know, I've been a little obsessed about my Cucuzzi vine. It's such a sweet satisfying reward to see the fruits of your labor. Even after all these years of growing.

I may be getting older, but the thrill of growing my own food never gets old šŸ¤—šŸŒ±ā¤ļø
