To all of Bjorns Tree Service family and friends! After 33 years in the tree business industry, I am happy to announce that I have officially retired and have continued with my retirement plans. Sold the house on Roy Road in Cornelius where Bjorn’s Tree Service operated from. I retired back to McMinnville where I was born to a quiet home to start a new social life and tend to some health issues that have come up.

The other news is that Bjorn’s Tree Service is operating from within Watts Tree Service located in North Plains/Banks area, I’m happy to invite you to call Billy and Ron Watts, 971-770-7011 for your tree needs. They are people with integrity, experience, honesty, and morality. They have all their credentials to run a legal and safe tree service. I highly recommend Watts Tree Service to you for the above reasons. Bjorn’s Tree Service lives on though them.

Bjorn and I began this business in 1990. With so much hard work, and Bjorn’s personality and expertise we continued though thick and thin. A difficult business, continued even when Bjorn was diagnosed with cancer in 2007.. After 4 large surgeries he succumbed to the cancer in May of 2016. Our Son Jeff and I continued with the business after he was gone and now my time to retire is here. Jeff has a successful career at Intel as an Sr Engineer.

Our wishes for this business has always been for providing the community with an honest tree service for a fair price and take care of our customers. I appreciate all of our customers and wish you all the best.

Signs of a Sick Tree

1. Sudden dying of top of tree.

2. Discoloration of leaves/needles
a. Lighter shade of green
b. Yellowing
c. Brown around outer sides of leaves.

3. Wilting of foliage
a. Spots on leaves
b. Pustules on leaves c. Holes in leaves
d. Insects on leaves

4. Twig and branch die back.

5. Abnormal growth on twigs, branches or trunk

6. Seepage of sap on bark-with or without an odor

7. Insects on branches and leaves. Presence of a caterpillar type worm indicates insect infestation. 8. Mushroom type growths on lower base of tree trunk, or even in the ground, near the tree base. 9. Heavier foliage in one area of the crown; such as fewer leaves in extreme top of crown as com- pared to the lower part of the crown.

Basic things to remember when trying to grow trees:
1. Cankers, a lesion on stems or trunks characterized by dead tissue, often sunken in the center or with raised growth around the edges. Caused by natural and man-made open- ings that airborne pathogens enter that lead to vascular plugging.
2. Insects are the basic carriers of disease pathogens and every tree has from one to five natural enemies every year. Therefore, it is most important to predispose trees from insects. Through advanced chemistry and techniques, these insects can be controlled all season long
An increase in soil acids beyond limits means a decrease in the supply of certain plant nutrients. At the other extreme, as the alkalinity increases the roots are less able to absorb micro-nutrients such as iron, manganese, zinc, copper and boron because these minerals are insoluble under these conditions which results in yellowing of the leaves. Most trees grown best on soils having a slightly acid reaction under a PH of 5.5 to 7.

1. Increased home resale value
Let’s start by breaking down the monetary impact healthy trees have on the resale value of your property.

According to the Council of Tree and Landscapers Approval, a healthy and mature tree often has an appraised value between $1,000 and $10,000.
The Arbor National Mortgage & American Forests reports that for homes listed for over $250,000, a healthy and mature tree can positively impact buyer interest by up to 98%.
Specifically here in the PNW, a tree in front of the house can increase a home’s sales price by an average of $7,130.
A Management Information Services study revealed that landscaping with healthy trees can increase property value by 20%.
Spending just 5% of your home’s value on improving your landscaping—including adding trees—can have an ROI of as much as 150%.
