THIS is Month and you and your fellow practioners need you to Take Action Now!

The future of 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 and is under attack. The U.S. Department of Transportation (US DOT) has issued a memo calling for the 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 from federal grant funding. If this directive stands, communities across the country will lose essential infrastructure that enhances public health, safety, and economic opportunity.

🚨 This is a direct threat to landscape architecture and the communities we serve. Now is the time to take action and implore the US DOT to reverse this damaging policy. 𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗰𝗿𝘂𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗶𝘁𝘃𝗲𝘀, 𝘄𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻!

📢 Take action in just one step:

✅Sign the letter to US DOT Secretary Sean Duffy to highlight how bicycle and green infrastructure projects improve mobility, public health, climate resilience, and economic growth—and how landscape architects are leading the way in their design.

AND

✅ Share this alert with colleagues and encourage them to act. We need every landscape architecture advocate to stand up and defend these vital projects. Your voice is critical in stopping this harmful policy before it’s too late.

Busy day yesterday! Wrapping up master planning concepts with the Fairgrounds, unveiling of the artwork for the Trailblazing Women Sculpture Trail, and returning to Jefferson Avenue with Canisius University and the New Buffalo Institute for a deeper dive on community based food.

With intention, we have been very quiet about our role in generating a community honor space for those who lost their lives on May 14, 2022 at Tops Market on Jefferson Avenue. Honored by the invitation to lead, it has been an incredibly humbling and rewarding opportunity to create relationship, build trust and share empathy and compassion with our fellow human beings as they mourn, but also as they generate a future they want to live into. One centered in compassion and hope. On the Anniversary of this brutal act of violence and racism, the community gathered in love. It was a gift to be with them. Our community group and store leadership unveiled the concept design. Next we create construction drawings and coordinate with the community to build this from within.

I got to meet up with one of my former students! Regan had been a student at Buffalo State in urban planning, and spent the semester with us in 2019. She's just graduated from UB with her master's of Architecture degree and heading to NYC for her first professional job! So very proud of her!

Lake Erie residential shoreline protection experiment phase 1 complete! Rock revetment completed winter 2022 and protected the shore during 25' seiche (winter 2021 they lost over 10' of shoreline). Round 1 shoreline planting as part of DEC permit completed this past week. Next the "FUN" part of the experiment, selecting and installing deep rooted, water edge pollinators, native grasses and vines. So glad to be working with folks who not only value nature based solutions, but who share our love of the experiment!

Fantastic night for JKLA at the recent Western New York chapter of the American Planning Association, taking home honors for our Public Realm Master plan for the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus and a wonderful honor of our Cattaraugus Creekside Amphitheaters in the Village of Gowanda being named one of Western New York's Great Places

In a short period of time, the spaces in front of Old Erie County Hall will become the anchor of the Trailblazing Women Sculpture Trail! We're proud to have been the landscape architect for this project, along with our partners at Trautman Associates and of course our project leaders inside Erie County's Commission for the Status of Women. https://trailblazingwomenwny.org/
