I've been working on getting the first section of beds ready for planting in March. These are no-dig beds. This section is about a third of my garden. I need to pick up more compost and wood chips and clean up the edges with a spade, all before planting in March.

I've started a small number of cauliflower seeds with the idea of getting some plants in the ground the first week of March. I'll do some later sowings too and hopefully have several harvests before summer.

I've got a nice little propagation area with grow lights set up in the basement. Later I'll switch to my tiny greenhouse outdoors.

First turnips of the season! I had some bacon from St. John Feed and Seed, LLC which I rendered for some smokey flavor and sauteed the turnips, added some plain water and the turnip greens, a little sugar, salt, pepper, and some fresh lemon juice at the end. Please share your turnip recipes, I've got plenty more turnips to eat!

My favorite tomato variety that I've ever grown. It produces tons of little ivory colored tomatoes with yellow shoulders, so sweet they're like candy. I love them sauteed in a little olive oil with salt and freshly ground black pepper. I have extra plants, these and 15 other varieties. Limited quantities. Contact me if you're interested.

If you need a few more tomatoes, they are on tables in my front yard. If you have no space or no garden, consider a cherry tomato in a big pot or bucket. Make sure it has drainage holes and fill it up with a good potting mix from Walmart, Orscheln, Home Depot, etc. You'll have fun growing the plant and get a worthwhile harvest of sweet little cherry tomatoes. All plants are marked what they are. There is an honor box if you want to leave me something, or not, I'm putting whatever is left in the compost in about a week, so come get them for free if you want. I'll put out some chili pepper plants tomorrow, same deal.

I've got a bucket full of common elderberry (Sambucus canadensis) that are rooted and ready to be planted out. They need to be planted out very soon in fact. I would say I have 80 - 100 starts. They can be planted about 2 feet apart.

The plants were originally from Shooting Star Nursery in northern Kentucky, no longer in business, and they were a local genotype for that area. These starts are vegetative clones from my original plantings, I think 10 or more years ago.

I'd like to get these into the hands of someone looking to establish a large naturalized wildlife planting as I'd rather hand over the entire bucket. They are mostly useful to birds for food and nesting, but the flowers attract pollinators and butterflies and are a host species for the Cecropia moth.

I have made jam from the berries and it was very good, but this is not a cultivar, so I primarily have them for their wildlife value. I'll give them to someone looking to establish a wildlife planting and wanting to take them all and plant all of them. I can deliver them or you can pick them up. either way I can help plant them if desired.

Looks like the weather has taken a turn for the worse! I'm not going to be planting out any cold sensitive plants until the middle of the month. Tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, basil, and many others are safe and sound in my greenhouse. I will have extras of many things including heirloom and open pollinated tomatoes, but I'm going to wait for this cold snap to pass before I set them out. This is the second year in a row this has happened! Check out this link: https://www.weather.gov/ind/may2020cold #:~:text=Roughly%20the%20first%20half%20of,into%20the%20area%20from%20Canada.
