This house was a certified handyman special. Good patch, bad patch... there's levels to this game.
Sometimes you build new from scratch. Sometimes you lean into the vibe of what's already there. And sometimes? You work with what you've got.
Tools, materials, time, budget... or all of them.
What started as removing an old patch turned into more of an archaeological dig than a demo, with smaller tools feeling out what was loose and what had fight left in it.
Solid brick stoop underneath solid concrete, nice base to work with. Even managed to salvage the original bluestone from the top with some thoughtful cuts and tucking a couple of smaller chips. Rearranging these pieces was like solving a really heavy puzzle.
The step treads? Buried treasure from the backyard. Old bluestone pavers that had completely sunk into the grass over time. Now they're center stage. The owner likes the 'natural look' on the sides, figured the tall grass would cover it soon anyway.
Here's the secret - whatever materials you're working with, level lines make everything OK. People can feel level beyond just seeing it.
And when you are unsure what bigger decision should go in a certain place but it needs to happen now, sometimes a solid repair is in order; creating something that looks right because it is right and doesn't make you think twice walking up to your front door.
Proudly serving Greenwich, Darien, Stamford & Norwalk.
