Here are a few common shower and bathtub safety issues that might be very helful for you to know about.

•Using a sliding glass shower door for stability or balance – This is really unsafe because shower doors were not designed to support a person’s weight. This problem could be easily avoided by informing older adults not to use the door as a support, or possibly replacing it with a shower curtain.

•Using unsafe shower and bathtub and bathtub features – it is best to install grab bars where you can reach them easily. Using good safety equipment in your bathroom is the only way to go. Last Saturday Marin County Bathrooms installed a new walk in tub for one of our customers. Her family contacted us as they were really scared that she was going to fall in the bathtub and nobody would be around to help her. She was having a really hard time taking a bath and had to go upstairs to take a shower. She did have a chair lift to help her get upstairs but it was really hard to carry all her stuff she needed for her shower. We were so happy to be able to help her family and install a walk in tub which provided the family some relief that she would be safe while bathing.
