Five years ago today… little did we know how much our lives were about to change. ❤️

I shared this picture of Dan framing our future home, doing what he loves most. The next week, while framing the second floor, he would suffer a devastating fall that resulted in multiple broken bones, several surgeries, and weeks in the hospital.

Dan left that hospital in a wheelchair, one that would accompany him for months. But if you know Dan, you know nothing was going to keep him away from a job site.

His grandfather, the very man who taught him the trade, loaned him a second wheelchair to keep on-site. Dan would transfer between the two, and on some days, literally crawl around the construction site just to oversee the progress and remain involved.

Because that's who Dan is. He's never been one to stand back and watch. He's always been hands-on, and always will be.

Despite everything, he completed our fully custom home in just seven months. ❤️

Five years later, one ankle is now largely titanium, and his shoulder still reminds him of that fall with pain most people would never know he carries. Yet his passion for building has never changed.

When you see the craftsmanship behind Master Hand Construction Services, there's so much more to the story than the finished product. There's a man who has dedicated his life to his trade, who takes tremendous pride in his work, and who refuses to let life's challenges define what he's capable of.

Five years ago, I wrote about how blessed we were. Today, I couldn't agree more.

I'm so proud of this man, the strength he's shown, and the dreams we've continued building together. ❤️

🔨❤️ Family, Hard Work & Passing Down the Trades!

One of the things we love most about being a small, family-owned business is getting to work alongside the people we love!

We recently had our nephew, Christian, join us on-site, and he's always a welcome addition to our crew whenever his schedule allows! 💪

Christian learned much of what he knows from his father (and my brother), Chad, who isn't just an amazing dad to some pretty incredible kiddos, but also a very talented electrician! ⚡

There's something special about seeing knowledge, skills, and a strong work ethic passed down through generations. It's one of the many reasons we have such a love and appreciation for the trades!

🌟 And speaking of hardworking young entrepreneurs…

Christian has his own business offering pressure washing and Christmas light installation! 🎄✨ So, whether your home needs a fresh, clean look or you're ready to get those Christmas lights hung without climbing a ladder yourself, look no further! We love supporting his ambition and watching him build something of his own!

A neat finish matters. So does the work that gets covered by it.

If you’re discussing a repair, ask the contractor to show you the affected area and explain the proposed work before the finish goes back on. A photo and a clear explanation can make that conversation much easier.

These are a few terms you may hear when planning a remodel. Use them to ask clearer questions about what’s included, what you still need to choose, and what happens if the plan changes. The wording and details in your actual estimate matter.

I love a good inspiration folder. But at some point, another kitchen photo just gives you another decision to make.

I shared a listing on my real estate page. Some of the comments and private messages became personal. I was told I was ruining the Knoxville area.

I deleted the cruel comments and didn’t argue back. But it hurt to feel unwelcome in a place our family had chosen to call home.

Our connection to East Tennessee goes back years. We’d been visiting long before we moved, and we have family who’ve lived here for 20 years. Coming from rural Central New York, near the Adirondacks, the surroundings felt familiar.

So when we started thinking about our children’s future, East Tennessee was already part of our lives. Our faith matters to us, and we wanted our children to feel free to express theirs. That was part of the life we hoped to build here.

That’s the family behind the listing. Proud of our Central New York roots, and grateful to be making a home in East Tennessee.

The comments hurt, but I’d rather get to know our neighbors than argue online. If we haven’t met yet, I’m Crystal.
