Had bought this wooden puzzle gramophone well over a year ago, and finally put it together today. Omgosh the tiny little wood “nails” were killing me!!! It’s so cute! Now the question is should I paint/stain it like the real deal, or leave as is?

As my bio says, I’m pretty obsessed with history in general, whether it’s collecting antiques, traveling to historic places, watching archeological documentary series like Time Team, and living out my medieval fantasies at Renaissance Faires! Every year it takes me to my happy place. So I thought I’d photo dump some of my favorite Rennfaire looks of the last few years…

Today’s finds…
From :
-a small rustic display case
-2 more little blue bottles (it’s becoming an obsession!)
-2 red toile curtain valences that happen to match my laundry/craft room perfectly.

After antiquing, I decided to take a short drive into Sayville and bought some more sage & other goodies from and then happened upon this amazing Irish store and bought some Irish soda bread mix and some honey & preserves… which of course I had to bake and eat immediately!

…all in, a very productive day!

What better way to spend a rainy/snowy Sunday, then to go antiquing at my favorite local antique mall , wearing the vintage raincoat I bought here a couple months ago and my “antique” t-shirt?

I so wish I had a larger house, because those matching streamer trucks and that giant mirror would’ve come home with me! I did purchase a few things here and at my next stop that I’ll share later…

Did a New Years summer pot this morning and let the aroma infuse the whole house, before straining and using it as a floor wash. The entire downstairs smells so fresh! Luna however is not amused and is ready to dirty it all again lol!

Later today I will do my annual New Years ritual to reflect on 2023, leave negativity behind, and set my intention for 2024. I hope 2024 is a great year for everyone!!

I’m pretty obsessed with history and have been researching my genealogy since the late 90s. Recently I’ve been working on scanning and uploading all my old-school paper research onto , after having also done the DNA test. It had been years since I updated my research and now having an absurd amount of data at my fingertips online… I’m buried in it again! On some branches I’m back as far as the 1400s which is wild! This is why I need a special way of storing the records and photos as shown in one of my prior posts. Pictured here is one of my more illustrious ancestors, Colonel Thomas Dawson (1762-1804) and Elizabeth Francis Tate (1766-1849) originally from Ireland and lastly from PEI Canada. Look him up—he wasn’t the nicest guy sadly… Couldn’t help having a little fun though comparing myself to my 4th-great-grandma. I think the nose has made its way through the 7 generations lol!!

Don’t think I’ve shared what I call my gothic jungle! My collection of plants and bones that live on my bay window. And the centerpiece is a gothic fairy garden I made out of a flea market exterior lantern.

Two of the items I got at yesterday were a taxidermy chipmunk from and a taxidermy duck (I can’t recall the name of the vendor on the back wall). A rainy day is a great day for projects, and they both needed homes. The chipmunk with his teddy bear clearly needed a bed to go snuggle in, and the little duckie with also is just as clearly a princess needed her carriage…

Rainy Sunday Funday in my fake workshop! Lol!
Things I learned today:
1) I knew there was a reason I didn’t care if I messed this old tent up—it’s not even water tight! I woke up to pooling inside on the floor and now had to lift up the chairs on blocks and cover them with plastic when I’m not actively working on it. I don’t need a giant tent anymore anyway. I’d rather invest in a new really good 4 person tent.
2) I waited too long to invest in an orbital sander! I still had my 15 year old clip on sander, a mouse sander, and a drum sander. The drum sander was wayyyy too much for this project. The mouse was too weak and actually not that great at edges. So I bought a orbital sander and a detail sander, and chair #2 was completed in less time and with better ex*****on.
3) goes well with hard work 😂

2 Chairs down, 4 to go…
