Have you ever noticed tiny droplets on the tips or tops of your Monstera leaves? If you see your plant dripping water, donโt worry! It is 100% normal!
This process is called guttation, a.k.a. โsweating,โ โweeping,โ or โcrying.โ It is a natural way the plant excretes excess moisture, however along with water, the plantโs phloem also pushes out chemicals, sugar, and other minerals sourced from the soil. So while these droplets look like straight-up transpiration, itโs actually a combination of minerals called xylem sap, which is completely harmless and non-toxic.
My younger Monsteras (like the one pictured) often weep for a few days after their weekly watering. I typically check them in the morning and gently wipe off any droplets with my microfiber gloves or lightly shake the plants to remove any guttation.
Do your Monsteras weep?
