School is almost out here in Oakland so we thought we’d share a quick peek of the garden we helped grow this year !

The plants are mostly thriving and the kids made the cutest signs — indicating beds dedicated to pollinator-attracting, sensory, floral and edible plantings. It’s been such a pleasure to see the garden used as part of the regular science and art curriculum and to know that students are getting to interact with the plants on a daily basis.

Next year we’ll try to figure out why the irrigation keeps getting turned off (oof!!) — for now, we’re thankful for the opportunity to support our local public schools and help make plants a part of daily life for more kids in our communities!! 💚💚💚

It’s that time of year when all our gardens are bursting with blooms — many of them edible!! ✨🌸
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Last week at Pine House HQ (aka founder ’s backyard) we picked a bunch of edible flowers to decorate a special spring birthday cake — the combination of ‘Cinco de Mayo’ and ‘Easy Does It’ roses, bronze-y/peach double azalea and baby pink snapdragons, and Nasturtiums in classic orange and paler yellow ‘Alaska’ varieties made for such a beautiful and vibrant combination!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Whether you use your homegrown edible flowers for salads, drinks or desserts, consider this a reminder to get out into your backyard while blooms are still sweet and fresh to make your own spring meals that much more special and beautiful! 🌿💕

Today’s harvest palette ✨
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Gold and purple potatoes, sweet beets, purple sprouting broccoli, pointed cabbage, Swiss chard, and fava beans paired with some of our favorite spring blooms — Chantilly snapdragons, roses, geum, and kangaroo paws.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
One of the best parts of the spring season is how the selection and colors begin to expand 🌿💐

It’s been a very busy and productive two months of spring planting here at Pine House and the truth is we couldn’t do what we do as well as we do if not for the wonderful team at ! 🌱🙏🏽
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you don’t already know, Curious Flora is an incredible nursery in Richmond that builds on the legacy of the old Annie’s Annuals — stocking all the very best specialty cutting flowers, rare plants and even veggies too! The team there — including the owner Colleen and staff Olivia (pictured), Ed and Marguerite — are amazing and we love them so much!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The Curious team are so patient, helpful and supportive as our we source for all our client gardens each Friday. This cart is just one of several we filled up and purchased last week with their help — and it’s like this every week! It’s a lot of plants to handle and we are so lucky and happy to be able to source them locally from such a great local business! 🌿💕
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Planting season is still going strong and plant shopping at Curious Flora is seriously fun — so do consider heading there sometime soon to get your own collection of fabulous plants up and growing!!

One of the most rewarding parts of being a full-service garden design, installation, and maintenance team is getting to watch our gardens grow — and seeing our clients grow right alongside them! 🌿
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Our Walnut Creek garden project has been especially meaningful for us as our clients truly live in and love this space, engaging with it daily and, over time, learning how to take on a lot of the care that helps make the garden their very own. Recently, they shared the space as part of the Garden Conservancy Open Day tour — which was such a beautiful opportunity to celebrate all that the garden has become!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
While the large backyard and backyard entry path are is largely water-conscious and designed to be lower-maintenance, they are still richly layered with texture, color, and some unique plants — all thoughtfully chosen for visual impact. We’re so glad to get to share a few glimpses of this space as it continues to evolve, just like the people who live with and care for it. ✨

Rose season has been especially gorgeous this year across all of our Pine House gardens!! ✨🌹 With blooms abounding and so many incredible hues showing up week after week, it’s nearly impossible to choose favorites — but here are a few beauties that have really caught our eye lately.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Our recipe for happy roses includes thoughtful winter pruning, regular feeding with alfalfa and compost tea, preventative antifungal treatments with Serenade, and of course, lots of year-round love and attention — which comes easily when they’re all this stunning!! 🌿😍

The sun is finally peeking through after all this late-season rain so it seems safe to say — April showers are bringing the May flowers! ☀️🌸
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Blooms are bursting open everywhere you look — iris, papaver poppies, peonies, alstroemeria and so much more. The gardens are waking up and we’re loving all the blooms and color!! 🌸🌸🌸
