MESSAGE FROM THE MARION COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE DIVISION OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT:
Hurricane Milton maintains its strength as a Category 4 storm and is expected to make landfall on Florida's west coast tonight.
At this time, Marion County can expect to see strong winds and prolonged periods of rain. Flooding throughout the low-lying areas of Marion County is certainly possible. While we don't know exactly what Hurricane Milton will bring to our county, it is always better to be prepared!
Here are some tips to help you prepare for flooding:
• Know if your home is in a flood zone.
- To check, visit: https://marioncountyfl.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=83214c006f4247cea3f68867496a0e4e and activate the Flood Zones layers in the Layer List on the left.
- You can toggle FEMA designated flood zones and flood-prone areas.
• Develop a flood emergency action plan and create a disaster supply kit that can be carried in a waterproof container.
• Evacuate immediately if advised to do so. Bring important documents with you.
• Move to higher ground if a flood warning is issued in your area.
• Monitor road conditions in your area through news updates.
There is still time to get sandbags! The following locations are open in a self-serve capacity today, while supplies last and weather permitting:

• Be cautious of debris that may be hiding under the surface.
• Discard items that come into contact with flood water because they may contain contaminants.
