Farm 21 Progress Pictures. The guys are making great headway. We are using Zip 1/2” for the roof and gables. 1/2” eliminates the wavy effect you see in roofs. This is not a problem on this project, as we are doing a 1.5” standing seam roof. Truly a one off barn, destined for the magazines. Over $100,000 of Origin Windows and Doors were delivered last week on our remodel project. Then we had Hurricane Idalia form and head straight for us. We crated them up and said a few prayers. We were were fortunate that we did not sustain a direct hit. Install next week….we hope. Tropical depression 12 now gaining strength.

We recently had an odd request. Fabricate some 40’ long cypress countertops for Oxford Downs. The lumber was terrible. It was green, wet, and there was no consistency in thickness or width. We used Festool’s Domino Joiner to get a level top surface, and to join all the wood together. The counter was made up of 2x10x 20 for the main counter, and then an additional 2x8x20 domino’d to the counter for the drink rail. The 2x8 was the routed out to accept drink rail pads.

We recently had an odd request. Fabricate some 40’ long cypress countertops for Oxford Downs. The lumber was terrible. It was green, wet, and there was no consistency in thickness or width. We all have those tools that cost a pretty penny when purchased, but is irreplaceable. We had an engineering change to accommodate a spiral staircase. Originally, the spec was for hollow core plank concrete. However, the supplier could not make it work with the spiral, without adding a column below. So to keep the clear-span over the room below, a 30’ steel I-beam was spec’d.

We needed to drill over 30 1/2” holes to mount the 2x12 ledger and LVL’s. The beam was about 3/8” in thickness. I pulled out the Hougen Low Profile Frame Drill for the task. Originally purchased for semi truck modifications. This electromagnet drill press is worth it’s weight in gold.
