What’s in my red wagon?

Veggies, herbs, flowers, and so much more… Our little red wagons have been rolling out of the Nursery full to the brim!
We have loved seeing everyone’s plant hauls and hearing all the garden plans, recipe ideas, and “where am I going to put all of these?” moments.

Come to the Nursery to fill your own little red wagon! We are open 11 to 5 every Wednesday through Saturday.

Thank you to and for coming by and showing off your new plants!

Featured Plant of the Week: The Shish*to Pepper 🌶️

Everyone’s favorite frying pepper, the Shish*to, is here! A favorite old Japanese variety which produces 3-inch-long, slightly wrinkled fruit that are wonderful for making tempura and other recipes. Shish*tos grow into a gorgeous emerald green color and are mildly flavored with just a bit of spice.

Alongside the Shish*tos, we’re offering a curated selection of sweet and hot peppers that have been adapted to our mild West Sonoma County summers, including Jimmy Nardello whose productive 24-inch plants are loaded with 10 to 12-inch-long pepper and the Espelette pepper. The Espelette pepper is a favorite of current OAEC Kitchen Manager, Tasha Tipiana, who describes the pepper as “mild, smoky and fruity.”
Come explore the lineup and find your perfect pepper!

Featured Plant of the Week: Bodega Red Potatoes 🥔

Bodega Reds are a legendary local potato once grown widely in Northern California. They prospered from Bodega Bay to Petaluma and along Tomales Bay into Marin County. After nearly going extinct in the 1970’s, it was revived from just three remaining potatoes found near Bodega, California. Today, it is listed on Slow Food International’s Ark of Taste, a catalog of culturally and historically significant foods at risk of disappearing, and is noted for its creamy and nutty flavor.

After lots of sowing by our nursery and garden teams, we officially have tomatoes available in
the Nursery 🍅🎉

For the first time since 2021, we’re excited to be offering a curated selection of 29 of our favorite slicer and cherry tomatoes! We have everything from tried-and-true classics like Sun Golds to open-pollinated heirloom cherries like Honeydrop and Coyote. We’ve also brought back some of the rare slicers that have deep roots in OAEC’s history, including Andy’s Polish Pink, Farallones Orange Beefsteak, and Carlos Santana Green Stripe.

These starts have been carefully grown from seed and are more than ready for some sunshine after a stretch of cold, wet weather. There’s nothing quite like a homegrown tomato, and now’s the time to get them in the ground.

Hurry over to shop our entire selection before they fly off the shelves! While you’re at it, snag a few basil plants to interplant with your tomatoes for the perfect caprese salad this summer.

We’re open Wednesday through Saturday from 11am to 5pm!

Featured Plant of the Week: Dyers Coreopsis 🌼

Meet this vibrant North American native, beloved for both its cheerful blooms and its rich history as a natural dye plant. Growing about 1-2 feet tall, Dyers coreopsis brings charming bursts of red and yellow to the garden.

Its petals can be used to create a stunning range of golden yellows, making it a favorite for natural dying. Swipe to see some beautiful dye swatches, generously shared by Kate Lundquist, who has experimented with the dye!

As a bonus, it’s easy to grow and a great addition to a pollinator friendly garden.

Stop by the OAEC Nursery Wed–Sat 11am to 5pm to bring a little sunshine (and maybe some color for your next project) into your garden ✨
