Interior designer is the title. The job description is a little longer. 😂

Behind every finished room are hundreds of decisions, conversations, measurements, selections, schedules, orders, and problems to solve along the way.

At Turquoise, my work can take me from reviewing a floor plan in the morning to sourcing materials, talking through details with a contractor, checking on a project, and hunting down the right piece of furniture by the afternoon.

There are a lot of hats involved in bringing a home together. Luckily, I happen to like wearing all of them. 💙

It’s never too late to change your mind about your home. 🤍

One of the best things about interior design is that a room can keep evolving. A new pattern, different lampshade, updated hardware, or simply moving something you already own can completely change how a space comes together.

You don’t need a major home renovation every time you’re ready for something new. Sometimes it’s the smaller decorating decisions that make you excited about a room again.

And if you’ve been thinking about trying that color, fabric, or pattern for months, consider this your sign.

Which one are you doing first?

They say money can’t buy happiness… but a home you love coming back to is a pretty good investment. 😉

Hiring an interior designer means having someone there to guide the decisions, pull every detail together, and keep your renovation or new build moving in the right direction.

From the architectural details and space planning to cabinetry, lighting, finishes, furniture, and those final layers, there are a lot of decisions behind a finished home. And yes, I’m very happy to be the person making sense of all of them.

“The best rooms have something to say about the people who live in them.” – David Hicks

This is something I come back to again and again in interior design. A home should tell you something about the people who live there: how they spend their time, what they love, where they’ve been, and how they gather with family and friends.

A beautiful room is wonderful. A beautiful room that tells your story is even better. 🤍

“Simplicity is about subtracting the obvious and adding the meaningful.” – John Maeda

This is one of those quotes that translates so beautifully to interior design.

A well-designed home doesn’t need every corner filled or every surface styled. The most impactful design decision is knowing what to leave out, so the architecture, materials, art, and pieces that actually mean something have room to be noticed.

A little reminder that more isn’t always more. 🤍

You don’t need to redecorate your entire home for fall. 🍂

One of my favorite ways to transition a home from summer into fall is to work with what you already have and make a few seasonal changes.

1) Keep your favorite decorative bowls, but change what’s inside. Figs, small pumpkins, pinecones, and natural elements in amber, brown, burnt orange, and warm neutral tones immediately introduce a fall color palette without making the room feel overly seasonal.

2) Swap fresh summer fragrances for fall candles with notes of cinnamon, apple, pine, cedar, or magnolia.

3) If you have a flat-weave or natural-fiber rug, layer a thicker wool rug over it for warmth and texture. A solid cream, beige, or soft gray lets you keep that neutral foundation.

4) For your sofa, change a few throw pillows rather than everything around them. Think amber, scarlet, chocolate brown, deep green, and burnt orange, taking inspiration directly from autumn leaves.

5) Don’t forget the front door. A beautiful seasonal wreath sets the tone for your home before family and friends ever step inside.

With only a couple changes in color, texture, scent, and natural materials you can completely shift the feeling of a space.

A client can spend years imagining their home before they ever come to Turquoise Interior Design 🤍

Then come the conversations, drawings, selections, site visits, decisions, and all the little details in between.

Getting to stand in the finished space and watch them realize this is the home they’ve been talking about all along will always be one of my favorite parts of what I do 🥰

Interior design habits I still live by after 25 years in design 😉

Trends will come and go, but these are the principles I continue to come back to when designing a home.
