I'm looking for some feed back, constructive criticism. I’m getting close to finalizing the cover for my new workbook, The Home Construction Planning & Comparison Guide, and I’d appreciate some honest, constructive feedback.

The workbook is designed to help homeowners clarify their project, compare contractors and bids, understand their options, and make decisions with greater confidence before signing a contract.

When you look at the cover:

• Does it clearly communicate what the workbook is about?
• Does the main message stand out enough?
• Does it look professional and trustworthy?
• Would it make you curious enough to pick it up and look inside?

I’m not just looking for compliments, so please feel free to point out anything that seems unclear, distracting, too busy, or could be improved.

Forecasters are warning that El Niño conditions are present and expected to strengthen going into the 2026–27 winter season. NOAA has also reported a chance this could become a very strong event. That does not guarantee flooding here, but it does mean now is a smart time to look at drainage around your home.

As a general contractor for IC Integrity Construction, and more in the role of a home advisor, I would encourage homeowners to walk their property now and look for areas where water may become a problem.
Check things like:
Gutters and downspouts
Yard drains
Low spots near the house
Water draining toward the foundation
Planter areas that hold water
Driveways, patios, and side yards that puddle
Garage or crawlspace areas that have had water issues before
The reason I’m bringing this up now is simple: once the storms are in the forecast, demand goes way up. When demand goes up, availability gets tight and costs usually follow.
It is almost always cheaper to correct drainage issues before the rain than to deal with water damage after the fact.
Not trying to sound alarmist — just giving a practical heads-up as someone who has seen how fast small drainage problems can turn into expensive repairs.

As someone who’s spent 38 years in construction, I like sharing practical tips that may help homeowners avoid unnecessary repair costs.

Helpful homeowner hint:

One of the easiest ways to protect your home investment is to keep water away from the house.

Make sure gutters are clear, downspouts discharge away from the foundation, and soil slopes away from the home instead of toward it.

A small drainage issue can turn into fascia damage, stucco damage, slab moisture problems, or wood rot long before most homeowners realize there’s a problem.

Preventing water intrusion is always cheaper than repairing it later.
