Today’s Rescue:

This lingerie chest was from the late 80s or early 90s and was given to me from a friend whose mom had passed years ago so he’s getting rid of stuff.
It was in excellent condition, but kind of dated.

I decided to break out of my usual color palette and went with a light pink called Rose Water. I loved the color but without any interesting details on the piece itself, it was just blah. So I pulled out an oldie but goodie…the rose stencil!

I planned on using new drawer pulls, but the ones I bought were too big and I didn’t want to fill and drill new holes or spend more time trying to find the right size…so I just spray painted the original ones and it worked out great!

“Audrey” will be making her way to my booth at Brown Street Emporium as soon as there is a spot available 😁

I sometimes re-rescue things from my booth 🤭

I love to pick things up from the thrift store and remake them or update them. These were heavy mirrors when I bought them, and I decoupaged on the glass but left the frames alone. I thought they would sell right away but no…they didn’t 😕

During my last booth refresh I pulled a bunch of things including these. My plan was to give them an update because I felt that silver with the black distressing was just too heavy. I painted the frames to coordinate with the colors in the pictures and I like them so much more!

Today’s Rescue:

Old hardware!

Whenever I would take something old apart (antique treadle sewing machines, furniture, etc) I would save the hardware (screws, bolts, washers, hinges, etc). First, because as I’ve said before, I am my father’s daughter so I save everything 😂. Second, because I have a thing for old rusty crusty stuff 🤭. Third, because it’s a great way to get a big collection of random hardware just in case 😬

I had gone thru and separated it all based on type of screw, rough size, etc. so it’s easier to pick thru just one bag rather than a big coffee can of mixed stuff. And while this took a little bit of my time, it saves a LOT of time by not having to run to the hardware store every time I need one or 2 screws for a project!

Well, I dipped into this old hardware twice in the past week because I needed just one more of an odd specific sized screw and found exactly what I needed each time! 👏👏

Another one from the free haul 😁

I thought this table was so cute when I picked it up and it was the perfect workbench in my garage for a while 😂

The lower shelf needed repairs in the veneer…lots of repairs. So, I thought it would be easier to just strip that top layer of veneer. Wrong!! I got a patch about 4” square off and the rest wouldn’t budge 😂 I tried coming from the opposite side and got another small piece off and I realized that was not going to work 😕

Ok fine I’ll just leave the shelf off I thought. But once I had it painted and the top was stained, it just looked so blah and boring without the shelf 🤦‍♀️

Out came the Bondo to try and patch up the big mess I made 😂 I had to flip the shelf over to use it. Oh and I still had a bunch of gluing to fix the rest of the veneer but it looks so much better with the shelf!

Today’s Rescue (part 2)

I know I said I was going to paint the top and be done with this piece, but once I had it glued and sanded down, I thought why not try staining it first. So I did. And it looked pretty good considering!

And then once I went to put the top back on, I could see there was a gap between where the top is attached to the apron. I was able to loosen it enough to get glue under there, and then used screws to try and tighten it all up and hope it would help lessen the warping (when viewed from the front anyway 🤭)

I’m not sure it helped much but it certainly didn’t hurt 😂

And since it might actually be a piece I could sell I went ahead and cleaned up the drawers and the hardware.

Today’s Rescue:

Little tins upcycled with some decoupage paper

The tins are another one of those things that have been in my stash for too long. I saw so many cute ideas on Pinterest to make tiny dioramas from them, but finding the mini things to put in them was impossible. Well, impossible to find any cheap enough anyway.

So when I found this paper I thought it might work… and it did perfectly! I was able to distress and age them a little too.

I love it when I clear a complete category from my stash! 🤭

Today’s Rescue (part 1)

This desk was probably a really nice quality piece when it was made, but oooh it’s seen some things 😂

I picked it up for free so I can’t really complain. I could see the veneer on top was in pretty bad shape but thought that’s easy enough to fix. But once I got it home and brought it into the house to keep until I could work on it I could see the top was impossibly warped on the back side.

I figured no biggie…I’ll paint it and just use it in my booth as a display surface. So the other day I took it out to the garage to get it ready for painting and to see if there was anything I could do about the top. I ended up taking it completely off and then I could see it was also warped on each side 😂

I don’t have the tools or ability to make a new top so I’m just gonna glue all of the loose veneer, sand all of the areas where the veneer is missing to blend it into the surrounding areas and then paint it and call it a day.

It’s a thingamajig!

I got some wood scraps from my sister a few years ago and there were a few pieces of floor transition trim in the mix.
One day I needed to paint some hardware and they came in very handy 😁
I drilled a bunch of holes and just mounted the k***s on the wood and I could easily hold the end of it in the air and spray away!

It’s even better for the pulls that have the swinging bail. Using this thingamajig, I can spray the hardware while holding the wood so they all hang down. Then I can spray and I just rest the ends of the wood on something while they dry.

I used them again today to paint some pulls for a project I’m working on 😁
