On May 6th, the State of Utah rolled out some new rules for e-bikes and e-scooters. Here’s a quick breakdown of what to know:

-Helmets (Under 21): If you’re under 21, you’ll need to wear a helmet while riding. Make sure it meets safety standards.

- Bike Types Matter: Regular e-bikes = treated like normal bicycles
Higher-powered bikes = may be considered motorcycles

- Licensing (for high-powered bikes): If your ride falls into the “motorcycle” category, you might need: A Driver’s License, Motorcycle Endorsement, Insurance

- Age Rules: Kids under 8 can’t ride e-bikes on public roads. Riders under 16 can’t use higher-powered e-bikes

- Don’t Ride Impaired: Yes, you can get a DUI on an e-bike—don’t risk it.

- Coming in 2027:
Riders ages 8–15 will need to either: Be with an adult, or pass a safety course
