Meet the newest employee at Rae’s Living Legacy, Inspector Ambush, aka Pete 🐸🌿

He’s been with me several weeks, shows up every day, works the night shift, and accepts
payment in bugs.
His hobbies are pest control & jumping on my body in random places when I’m lost in thought. We’ve got to work on that last part, but honestly… best hire I’ve made so far.

🌿 Please Read Before You Buy Seeds Online

Someone asked a question here not long ago about seeds they were considering purchasing (which were not what they advertised), & then I found out someone I know got scammed by “giant hosta seeds” last week so this topic has been weighing on my heart & I wanted to share…

If you ever see a flower online that looks too magical to be real — glowing colors, wild shapes, something that looks like it came out of a fairytale — please be careful 💔

A lot of these listings are not real plants.
Unfortunately, many sellers are using edited or AI-generated photos and sending out random seeds (or nothing that will ever grow into what you saw). And the people who get hurt the most are often those who trust what they’re seeing — especially our older loved ones who didn’t grow up with this kind of internet trickery. I hate anyone being scammed, but nothing infuriates me more than taking advantage of an older person’s trust.

🌸 A few simple ways to protect yourself:
• If it looks unreal… it probably is
• “Rare” flowers are not sold for a few dollars
& for named varieties of plants it’s very rare to be able to grow them from seeds. Very rare. Asexual propagation (cloning) is the almost always the only way to obtain these plants.
• Always Google the plant name separately
• Buy from nurseries or growers you trust

DO NOT rely on ratings from websites (like Etsy, Amazon, etc). With seeds specifically, people review when they are received & the reviews are based on how fast shipping was & the appearance of the seeds. If you read the reviews you will notice that. It takes months before people realize they did not receive what they bought, or just nothing grows & they believe the fault was with themselves.

I say this because I care — I don’t want anyone wasting money, time, or hope on something that was never real to begin with.
Gardening should be joyful, not disappointing 💚

If you’re ever unsure about a plant or seeds, feel free to message me. I’m always happy to help you find something real and beautiful that will actually grow 🌿✨

I walked into the greenhouse this morning & it smelled HEAVENLY. I knew without looking that my mock orange tree had finally woken up. If I had to name my favorite plant I own that isn’t a sentimental one I inherited or was gifted this would be it. I know she needs pruning but I didn’t this winter because I want to clone her this year so I need plenty of semi-hardwood stems. I have no idea how old she is, but I bought her at an estate sale years ago so I know she’s getting up there. I take good care of her but life span in a container is realistically only 10-20 years so we need babies!

Today was one of those productive days that reminds me why I love this so much. I spent time potting up corkscrew willow whips and starting new cuttings, turning a handful of plants into many more for the future. There’s something so special about creating new life & knowing it’s the beginning of something that will grow and live on. Little by little, Rae’s Living Legacy is growing… just like the plants.
Every step feels like honoring the love of gardening that was passed down to me, and I can’t wait to share these with you all soon. 🌿💚

Today in the greenhouse 🌿
• Catnip started
• Chamomile going
• Echinacea potted up
• Strawberries settling in beautifully

It’s messy, it’s busy, and I’m learning something new every day… but I wouldn’t trade it for anything 💙

They want those strawberries SO badly!I will share later, but you can’t have them all 😂🦌

Last week it was 80° and we were convinced spring had arrived.
Today… it’s snowing.
Welcome to gardening in Alabama.
One minute you’re planting flowers, the next minute you’re dragging tropical plants back inside, covering beds, and checking the forecast every 10 minutes.

If you’re a gardener, you know the drill:
• Bring the tender plants inside
• Tuck blankets around the ones already planted
• Whisper encouraging words to your seedlings
• And remind yourself… real spring is coming soon.

The good news? The daffodils, hyacinths, and snowdrops are still putting on a show, and the greenhouse is full of little plants getting ready for warmer days.
Spring may be teasing us… but we’re getting ready for it anyway.

I’m sorry if I have missed anyone’s comments or questions. I’m trying to catch up because my daughter had prom last night & most of yall know that’s more work for a Mom than any garden. I’m thankful prom coincided with this cold snap or I probably would have shown up for photos late with dirt under my fingernails & smudges on my face 😂
For the most part everything is in a holding pattern here at the nursery until next Friday when the weather improves, so I will be working on seed starting. Basil, Thyme, cilantro, peppers, tomatoes, poppies, sweet peas, cosmos, & a huge variety of gorgeous zinnias that I can’t wait to show yall are on the menu. No matter the season there is always work to do in the garden, isn’t there?
How is the weather where you are, & what are you currently working on in your gardens?
