Okay, this turned out to be way longer than I anticipated but hear me out.

Have any of you heard about State Question 832? It is the initiative petition to raise Oklahoma's minimum wage.

The better question is how many of you have actually read the proposed language and thought about it? The language of the proposal raises the minimum wage from the current $7.25 hourly up to $15.00 by the year 2029. As far as my business goes, we start brand new untrained employees higher than that wage now so that part doesn't concern my business in the least. While I agree with the need for raising the minimum wage overall, I don't agree with mandating its annual increase year over year, particularly since there is no timing limit in the proposal. This will be happening forever based on the consumer price index. The economics of the proposal doesn't work. First, year over year increases will be unsustainable after several years. Next, consider what is going to happen to the pricing of goods and services. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Don't believe that companies are going to just absorb the increase in cost. Your cost of goods and services will go up, and as a general rule, more than the cost of the labor increase will be. Companies work on "margins" of profit. As costs rise their overall retail pricing rises by higher amounts so that they maintain their profit levels. They have to do this to survive and their investors demand it. This also then raises the inflation rate as this happens. We've all been experiencing these high inflation rates for the last several years. If this proposal passes in its current form your everyday costs are going to rise, dramatically. Remember, the new OK minimum wage will be tied to the Consumer Price Index, which we will then be forcing to rise by adding more inflation. Which then raises the minimum wage more.

Now, additionally consider that this proposal eliminates nearly all "exceptions" from the current OK law. It appears to me that for the most part, only Federal, State, and Municipal governments will be exempt. Why would that happen? Because the entity that started this petition knows that they have to build in exemptions for the government or it will simply die due to government entities not providing support because they know that government cannot sustain the continued increases in labor costs. State taxes would have to be raised and that would never fly with any tax payer. Remember, our government is our own largest employer, statewide and nationwide.

Additionally, think about this one. I don't see any exemption listed for "tipped wage earners" listed. I'm not taking any position here. I'm trying to be a realist. Think about your restaurant servers. Every current server that I know makes the federal tipped worker minimum wage of $2.13 an hour plus tips. I believe that to be a violation of OK law that states it will be one half of the federal minimum wage ($7.25 hourly x .5 = $3.625 hourly) but that is a conversation for another day and frankly I really don't want to research it. If these servers get an immediate raise to $9.00 an hour and more over 5 years (not saying they don't deserve it), what do you think is going to happen to your customer meal cost as the restaurant's labor cost rises? You know the restaurant can't absorb that kind of increase. Then, what do you think is going to happen to a server's tip percentage? If they are earning between $9 and $20 an hour and your meal costs have risen through the roof, what percentage of your meal cost are you and others are going to offer servers as a tip? There is a double edged sword here.

Also, with the current language of the proposed state question what do you think is going to happen to our ability to bring in out- of-state blue collar companies?

If you read through this I really appreciate it. We need more people to be informed and thinking about the pros and cons of this item before we vote.

Do you need a solid career? You need to join the Electronic Security Systems industry. Working with advancing technology is about as interesting as it gets!

Eales Electronics has entry level positions available for an electronics technicians trainee installing video surveillance, access control, fire alarm, intrusion alarm, and intercom systems. Applicants must be energetic, self-driven, able to take and follow instructions, progress in the required learnable skills, and maintain a positive likable attitude.

As this is a “safety sensitive” position you must be able to pass background check and drug screen. A valid insurable driver’s license is required for employment.

This position requires the individual to perform manual work such as, installing cable, mounting and connecting devices, and such for security, life safety, and IoT (Internet of Things) related devices and systems for commercial buildings, hospitals, warehouses, homes, etc. Lifting some items of over 50 pounds is required. No previous experience is needed. You will be working as a trainee with various supervising individuals until you are trained and fully licensed.

An hourly salary is the basic compensation along with employee health insurance, vacation, paid holidays, earned PTO, matching IRA, family life insurance, family short & long term disability, family vision plan, and family dental plan.

Applicants must have their own dependable transportation to and from our office each day along with basic hand tools.
