These are some of the beautiful vegetables and flowers that we have in the nursery that will delay you in the fall winter and spring. First one up is the purple Cape cauliflower which produces these beautiful purple heads in February.

The nursery will be open on Saturday, September 5 from 11 to 3 PM. We are offering a food preservation workshop on Sunday so the nursery will only be open for participants. We will open again next Sunday, September 13 from 11 to 3 PM. The sunlight is waning so it’s best to plant soon.

Penstamons are blooming now and will continue for a while….

Purple sprouting broccoli overwinters and produces a main head in April with lots of smaller broccolini’s afterwards

Aster tataricus is a 6’ tall Chinese medicinal aster that blooms in the autumn.

Lenten rose blooms in the middle of winter. It is a very hardy plant.

Violets bloom in February. They are a wonderful ground cover with a subtle fragrance and edible. I like to infuse them in honey.

Winter jasmine blooms December through February on bare branches. The yellow flowers are so beautiful in the winter.

Serbian bellflower is blooming now and will continue for a while. The blooming ms are edible. It is a nice ground cover.

Making sauerkraut may seem daunting for the newbie and it was for me for many years. Once I became more familiar, I was able to branch out and now I feel comfortable making up my own recipes and fermenting most anything. If fermentation has seemed tricky for you, I hope you can join in for my food preservation workshop this Sunday September 6 at the farm from 10-4. We will be making and tasting sauerkraut and likely some other ferments depending on interest. We will start with an overview of food preservation and how to plan for a winter pantry. We will also cover canning, dehydrating fruits and vegetables, and freezing. Link in bio to website. Low income, half day, and partial work/trade available. I hope you can join me…..

Greens are looking primo in the nursery this weekend. Time for planting these for the winter garden. If you haven’t planted your fall and winter broccolis, cauliflowers, cabbages, and kale, it’s time to hop to it! Check out these chois! Ready for planting.

Brussels sprouts, Chois, and Cardoncella barese escarole. I love this escarole! It’s got such long leaves for winter salads. Cold hardy and it can naturalize.



Yummy mustard greens. Love this color in the winter and the spicy is good and warming.



It’s weird how the grass looks pink. Check out these Chois. A great plant for the winter garden. 2 vegetables for the price of 1 since they have such nice stems and leaves.



Lacinato kale

This is a pepper that you treat like a houseplant and it will produce hot peppers all winter long inside your house. No lights needed!

Our current situation. Gravensteins are beautiful and abundant. Other varieties will keep coming. Let us know if you need some. The nursery will be open this weekend from 11-3 on Saturday 8/22 and from 4-7 on Sunday 8/23. Cool season starts and perennials are looking good and ready for your garden!

We just got more food grade 55 gallon barrels too.
