To bee or not to bee, that is the question.
I might be twisted, or simply practicing a weird toxic-redemption cycle.
I have an incredibly strong pull to share my creations in their most awkward phases, knowing that they very well may be judged for their brutal simplicity and cartoonish lack of depth because I judge them as so, all the while knowing that I will add layer upon layer of refinement to the piece until I feel it it reflects a sense of depth, motion and awe I find most often in nature. This piece has a long way to go but you can come see the finished work tomorrow evening between 6:30 and 9:30 at Fusion studio in Olympia WA

Alaskan Kelp, one of our favorite ingredients ✨
When we set out to start Barnacle Foods over four years ago, the idea of farming kelp along our coasts was just that — an idea. And a good one at that, the potential of this coastal livelihood was a big motivator for us. A 100% regenerative crop, kelp checked all of our boxes: densely nutritious and savory, one of the most efficient ways to sequester carbon while requiring very little in return. Kelp creates a unique opportunity to do good for the ocean while doing good for our health, too.

We set out to create the foods and supply chains that could support a network of kelp farming and harvesting partners. Flash forward, and much of our vision has come to life. This year we were able to source almost 1/3 of our kelp from Alaskan kelp farms!

This is a picture of line grown Alaria kelp from our partners at Sea Grove Kelp. We’re still doing some experimenting with this delicious variety, and look forward to sharing it with you soon 🌊 🍴 🥘
