Some pictures from around the garden today. Lots of flowers blooming. An American bumble bee on the calico beardtongue. Excited to see a new type of clearwing moth. I have a hunch we’ll see more of this type this summer.

In addition to our usual native plants, we have some annual zinnias! Although these aren’t native to Nebraska, they’re an excellent option for quick blooms and they feed tons of bees and butterflies.

Because native wildflowers and grasses can be slower to establish, adding in pollinator friendly annuals can give a new garden a pop of color and serve as an indicator to other humans that the area is intended as a pollinator/flower garden.

$4 each/$119 for a tray of 32
Can be mixed and matched with natives in a tray.

We’re open today!

Sundays 10am-2pm
Wednesdays 4pm-7pm

A HUGE thank you to everyone who came out to Pacific Preserve for the P1T1 today! Also, a huge thank you to Elizabeth, Tara, and Trevor for making this event happen!

With so much of our land tied up in agriculture and cities, growing urban habitat is one way we can help support our local ecosystems. We’re grateful for every person who comes and helps!

Elizabeth and Tara meet here at Pacific Preserve on Wednesday evenings. Then several of us meet at Cottonwood Creek Preserve on Thursday evenings. We’d love to have you join us! (And bring a friend!)

Brown-belted bumble bee on spider milkweed (Asclepias viridis) right before the rain started. I was apparently pretty shaky handed. 😅

Some highlights from Grasslands Unlimited’s Cottonwood Creek Preserve tonight. We found a monarch egg on common milkweed and a few new species coming in including lance-leaf coreopsis, which definitely weren’t there last year and are blooming already!

Golden Alexander’s are blooming, which are a host plant for black swallowtail butterflies. Common eastern bumble bees were working the clover.

Calico beardtongue was in bloom as well as the Columbine and there was a purple Columbine! We added more blue sage to the prairie thanks to my neighbor having quite a few extra. And two new volunteers made it out tonight! I’d call that a success!

We go out every Thursday evening around 6pm if you ever want to join and help or learn about restoration efforts!
