May is Deck Safety Month and here are 3 things to look for when inspecting your deck before summer.

1. Deck Boards
If you feel areas of your deck are more spongy than others or you can see deck boards rise and fall when you step on them, that could be a sign your deck boards are rotting, need new fasteners, or worse, the joists below are rotting.

2. Railings
Before your guests and family lean on your railing, give it the wiggle test. Too much wiggle means the fasteners are loose or are decayed and need to be replaced immediately.

3. Posts and Joists
These are what hold your deck upβ€”the foundation for the rest of your deck. Rot here means your deck could collapse.

Here are 3 simple tips to get your landscape ready for the growing season 🌱

1) Clean landscape beds and put down fresh mulch. Adding fresh mulch will keep your beds cool, hydrated, and improve soil health.

2) Prune shrubs and trees. This help promote healthy growth, a less hazardous mowing experience, and protects structures on your property.

3) Mow your lawn weekly. Mowing frequently keeps your lawn uniform, the weeds at a minimum, and promotes healthy growth. Pay attention to your blade height: During cooler temps the blade can be lower between 3”-3.25” while warmer temps should have a higher height between 3.5”-4”.

We know Memorial Day is this weekend, but technically you still have time to complete the list before the weekend πŸ˜‰

How about a throwback to March? ☘️

We were proud to present Commander Gene Phillips and American Legion - Roy L. Vingers Post #52 with a $250 donation as part of our Phillips Cares Community Donation Campaign! Post #52 was selected by our Fence Install Leader, Jesse! Jesse’s grandfather was a past Commander at the Post and even made an appearance in the far upper left of the photo.

Post #52 was organized in 1918, and is the largest Post in the state of Wisconsin with over 1,200 members. In addition to supporting veterans and their families, members of the post do a variety community service including supporting Children's Miracle Network, help kids go to Washington DC with the Police Safety Patrol, and many more events and projects.

You can support Post #52 by attending any of their dinners, live music, or variety of other events! This Sunday, May 3rd is their S.O.S. Breakfast benefiting their Honors Squad to help with funerals and other events. They have something for everyone, so give their page a like for all of their upcoming events!
