In July I did some light inquiries to see if anyone would have bulk basil for pesto making. But, I didn't seem to find anyone with enough so I threw in a couple dozen plants not thinking I'd get much from it. Well, I was wrong and thank goodness I did that late planting! A quick pick this morning I barely made a dent in the basil hedge, pesto and eggs for breakfast.

Ferrocement beds are shaping up and changing the whole landscape of the market garden. They are beautiful, thermal mass, protect the soil from erosion, and they add a lot of planting space!!

We built these wooden plant trays from an old fence, and are trying out paper pots this year. Young brassica starts are looking good so far, and no plastic!

Soulstice went to the desert! We picked citrus and prickly pear, visited family, and explored some desert botanical gardens. A nice break from the wet winters and a great start to the spring season.
Starts on the farm are growing strong! We have a ton of brassicas that will be for sale soon, tomatoes and cucumbers are on the way!!

We are a hair short of half way to our goal for the local food grocery and cafe!! My business will personally benefit from this project by allowing me to apply for a processing permit so I can make syrups, pickles, my veggie hand pies!!

Have you ever wanted a food coop in Lewis County? Do you find it hard to get to the farmers markets because of time and work? I can't count the number of times I heard this as a farmers market manager.
Farmers and producers go through a lot of effort to set up once a week, this project will add to their earning potential by extending those hours without them having to be there.
