You guide to algicide!

06/26/2026

🫧 Pool Tip: NOT ALL ALGICIDES AND CHEMCIALS ARE CREATED EQUAL! Cheaper is not always better.....🫧

Think adding more algaecide will clear a green pool faster? Not always!

One of the most common mistakes we see is adding bottle after bottle of inexpensive algaecide to a green pool. Many of these products can create thick white, soapy foam when chlorine is added. They can also increase the pool's chlorine demand, making it take longer—and cost more—to get your pool crystal clear.

💦 A few things to remember:

✔️ Chlorine is what kills an active algae bloom.
✔️ Algaecide is best used as a preventative, not as the primary treatment for a swampy pool.
✔️ More chemicals doesn't always mean better results. The right chemicals, in the right amounts, make all the difference.

If your pool has turned green, don't panic—and don't start pouring in every chemical on the shelf. Give us a call first. We'll help get your pool back to blue the right way!

💧 Ever wonder how your pool water actually moves?

Here’s a quick breakdown of the three main areas that keep your pool circulating and clean:

The Suction Side – Pulls Water Out
This includes your skimmer (that rectangular opening at the water’s edge) and main drain. Your pool pump creates suction that pulls water from these spots and moves it toward your equipment.

The Filtration System – Cleans the Water
Once pulled in, the water flows through your filter system where debris is removed. Some systems also treat the water with chemicals or heat it here. If this part isn't working right, your water won't stay clear.

The Pressure Side – Pushes Water Back
After filtration, the clean water is pushed back into your pool through the jets. Aiming the jets at the right angle improves circulation and helps prevent algae from building up in dead zones.

Once you understand how water flows through your specific setup, pool maintenance gets a whole lot easier. 🧼🌊

🌞 Meet Cyanuric Acid – Your Pool’s Chlorine Bodyguard! 💧
Cyanuric Acid in your pool!

Also known as CYA or stabilizer, it’s like sunscreen for your chlorine. Without it, UV rays break chlorine down before it can do its job.

☀️ Got a saltwater pool or full sun all day? You may need a little extra.

⚠️ But be careful—too little and chlorine disappears, too much and it stops working altogether.

It’s all about balance! 💦 Need help checking your levels? We’ve got you covered.

Planning to have people swimming this weekend?
Here are four things to do to get your pool ready:
Test Your Water NOW, Not Later
Test your water chemistry ASAP (not the morning of the party). Make sure your pH is between 7.4-7.6 and your free chlorine is around 3 PPM.
This gives you plenty of time to make adjustments.
Do a Quick Clean of Your Surfaces and Filter
Skim the surface to remove leaves and debris, brush the walls and floor to dislodge any clinging contaminants, and vacuum up anything that's settled to the bottom.
Don't forget to clean or backwash your filter, too. Then run your pump continuously for the next 24 hours.
Shock a Day or Two Before
If your water is murky, use chlorine shock. Just make sure you wait at least 24 hours (ideally longer) before you let people swim, and recheck your chlorine levels before anyone gets in the water.
The Final Day-Of Check
Skim out any debris and do a quick water test to make minor, last-minute adjustments.
Set up your pool toys, arrange your seating, and get ready to enjoy the unofficial start to summer!
Get Ready, and STAY Ready
The best pool parties happen when you're not scrambling to take care of your water. And that comes from having a simple, effective maintenance routine in place all season long.
