A Note to Our Community:

We want to take a moment to address a situation that has generated
a lot of conversation over the past few days.

Over the weekend, items were left outside the ReUse Center after hours. As is posted, we do not accept donations when we are closed, and the items could not be accepted or resold and had to be disposed of as trash, which we incur the cost of. We want to remind everyone that donations must be brought during business hours and checked in with staff so we can make sure they can be safely and appropriately received.

We also want to acknowledge our own misstep. In our frustration over the situation, we shared security camera footage on social media multiple times. Looking back, that wasn't the right approach. While our goal was to raise awareness about the impact of illegal dumping, the repeated posts shifted the conversation away from education and toward frustration, and that is not who we want to be as an organization.

We should have focused on the issue itself and the importance of following donation guidelines, rather than on the individuals involved.
We appreciate everyone who took the time to share their feedback, even when it was critical. Communities grow stronger when people can have honest conversations, and we've heard the concerns that were raised and have addressed them for the future.

The ReUse Center exists because of the incredible support of this community. Whether you donate, shop, volunteer, or simply help spread the word, you make this work possible. We remain committed to providing a welcoming place where items can be reused, resources can be stretched further, and everyone is treated with respect.

SUNY Oneonta’s Empire State Service Corps has grown to 100 students, expanding paid service opportunities and community partnerships across the region.

Just a friendly reminder to all of our customers, we do not take donations after hours. This is called dumping. All Donations must now have staff approval before unloading. It is a cost to the ReUse Center to discard items we cannot sell. For example, this chair that was dropped off at some point. Our staff would have declined it. We take donations Tuesday through Saturday 9 to 3. We appreciate all of you. Thank you for helping us in the future.

Thank you to our customers and donors loyal and new as well. We couldn’t do what we do without you. We appreciate all of you. We would also like your help please. We are getting many wonderful donations in our book department. We appreciate all of them, we would like to ask when bringing book donations that the books are clean, they do not smell of mold, or smoke,are not torn or missing covers and are not dirty. We do not take Encyclopedias or older textbooks. Books in poor condition do not sell, and it adds additional cost to the ReUse Center to dispose of them. We can accommodate five medium boxes per donation. Thank you again for your help and understanding. We appreciate all of you and all you do to help make the ReUse Center better.
