I tried my hand at making bacon jam this afternoon. It was pretty straightforward with ingredients that we keep in the pantry paired with our home grown bacon. It is delicious! I’m gonna tinker with the recipe a bit and add pepper flakes next time to give a little heat.

I finished the first knife yesterday. It’s for a repeat customer. They requested the same exact blade style as the one they got last year, just a smaller blade. I think it’s pretty close. It makes me feel good about what I do when I have repeat customers. Have a great day everyone

I made this loaf of soap over the weekend. It is the first batch using lard we rendered from our pigs. We used an oatmeal and honey scent. I’m excited that it came out good and will be impatiently waiting for it to cure and give it a try. 😂

Today my wife and I celebrate our 27th anniversary! We’ve made it through everything life has thrown at us over the years and still going strong. If you happen to see her out today make sure to tell her just how lucky she is! 😂😂 Just kidding, I’m the lucky one. I love you Lynn!

Hurricane Isaias check in: we’ve been without power for around 15 hours. We have a bunch of limbs down but the big trees in our yard are still standing. It got pretty rough last night but we are all ok. Our animals survived and are doing good. Got the generator going for coffee and to charge phones. If you’re from Alabama, Georgia or Florida check in and let us all know how you’re doing! Hope everyone is well.

With the hurricane closing in I had to pick my peppers before the heavy winds pick up. I’ve gotten everything secured, generator gassed up and extra gas on hand. I think we’re as ready as we’re gonna get. I hope all of our local folks are secured and that everyone stays safe.

I spent the rainy day rendering fat from one of our pigs into usable lard. It was my first time doing it and we got a pretty good yield, almost 4 quarts. I’ll use some for soap and the rest will be used for cooking. Just one more step towards independence. I hope everyone has had a wonderful weekend!

We got our fall turnip garden area tilled, raked, and planted. Now we just wait for rain. We’re looking forward to some fresh turnips and mustard greens.
