🏗️ Dark on top. White underneath. That’s on purpose.

A solid patio cover has one real drawback: close the roof completely and the space under it can go gloomy. Every bit of daylight that used to come through is gone, and a dark ceiling absorbs what’s left.

So this one is built two-tone. The fascia beam and the full-scale structural columns are bronze-black — that’s what you read from the yard, and it lines up with the window frames and the house trim. Flip it over and the underside is a smooth white beadboard ceiling, which bounces daylight back down instead of swallowing it. Same structure, two finishes, chosen for two different jobs.

📐 Which way do the slats run?

Almost nobody asks. It’s the question that decides whether you actually get shade where you want it.

An open lattice cover throws striped shade, and those stripes travel across the patio as the sun moves. Run the slats one way and the shade sits over the seating through the hottest part of the afternoon. Run them the other way and it slides off exactly when you’d want it there. Same cover, same slats, same price — a completely different patio to sit under.

📐 Most patio covers get hung off the fascia. This one got mounted on the roof.

It sounds like a small detail. It changes the whole room. A fascia-mounted cover has to start below the house’s eave, so the ceiling comes in low and the view out gets cut off at the top. Mount it on the roof instead and the cover starts above that line — full head height underneath, and an open sightline straight out to the yard.

Most patio covers get pushed straight off the back wall into open yard — and out there, every corner has to be carried by a post of its own. This custom Elitewood Lattice Patio Cover is drawn into the inside corner of the house instead, ledgered along two existing walls. The house carries two of its corners. Only two full-scale structural columns come down onto the patio, so you keep the floor.

Most patio covers get drawn as a single plane — one height, one beam line, one rectangle pushed out from the house. This custom Elitewood Lattice Patio Cover steps instead: a higher run against the house, a lower run projecting out over the patio, each with its own beam and its own shaped outrigger tails. You can see the shade working.

Look at the ground. Those hard bands across the pavers are the open aluminum slats blocking a high sun — that pattern IS the cover doing its job. A kit gets chopped square. This one got drawn. 📐

Nobody buys a patio cover for the beam ends. But the beam ends are where you can see whether anyone actually drew it.

Look at where the rafters land. Every rafter and outrigger on this cover ends in a scalloped profile — a shaped end cut, repeated identically down the whole run and around the corner. A kit ends its beams with a straight saw cut, because a straight cut is what ships in a box and a shaped one has to be specified.
