Here's what actually matters for home standby maintenance:

OIL + FILTER. Changed annually, or every 200 hours. Old oil breaks down and wears the engine silently.

BATTERY TEST. A weak battery is the number one reason a generator fails to start when the power goes out.

AIR FILTER. Dirty air means a rich fuel mix, hard starts, and shortened engine life.

EXERCISE UNDER LOAD. Weekly auto-exercise is good. Running under actual load is better. It reveals problems the idle cycle won't.

ERROR CODES. Your generator logs faults. Most owners never check them. We do, every visit.
