Progress update on the staircase and landing build in Oregon, WI. 🛠️

📋Our crew is moving right along on this project, replacing an old structure with a brand-new, wood-framed, code-compliant setup. 📐🔨

The framing is taking shape using 6x6 green-treated posts and robust 2x10 platform framing. We are running four 2x12 stringers for the steps to ensure the entire structure is completely stable and built to last. 🪵🪚 Up next, we will be finishing everything off with brown-treated decking, risers, and custom railings. 🪜✨

🏠 Insulating for comfort at our remodel in Middleton! 🧊✨

Big milestone this week as the insulation crew wraps up and gets us ready for sheetrock! Our project manager, Karl, shared some great insights into the extra details going into this build:

🚗 Garage & Living Space: Because we built new bedrooms directly over the garage, we gave extra attention to protecting the ductwork and plumbing in the garage ceiling. This keeps everything safe from cold Wisconsin winters and ensures the rooms above stay perfectly cozy year-round!

🤫 Peace & Quiet: We installed sound-reducing insulation in the interior walls to match the existing house, keeping the new addition nice and quiet.

🎨 Charm: Check out the original gable brackets! We carefully removed, stored, painted, and re-installed them so the charm of the original home flows seamlessly into the new design.

🪵 Screened Deck: The rear screened deck is also taking shape and getting prepped for exterior finishes!

Next Stop: UW-Platteville! 🎓🔨

Building and remodeling are truly in James Wanta’s blood. Following in the footsteps of his father, Josh Wanta—who founded Legacy Custom Remodeling back in 2006—as well as his uncles and grandfather, James has grown up around the trade his entire life.

For the past two years, James has been working officially with the Legacy crew, completely immersing himself in the family business. He graduated from Oregon High School this past June, and now he is taking his passion to the next level. This fall, James is heading to UW-Platteville to study Project Management! 📚📐

Our entire crew wants to say a massive thank you to James. We’ve deeply appreciated his hard work, his fantastic "get-things-done" attitude, and the great energy he brings to every single job site.

Congratulations on your graduation, James! We are incredibly proud of you, thankful for your time on the crew, and excited to watch you build your own future in the industry. 🪵🏗️

Celebrating Jack Hovde! 🎓🔨For the past two years, we’ve been incredibly lucky to have Jack with us as a high school apprentice through Monona Grove High School's fantastic work program.

Working alongside his dad, Lead Carpenter Ben Hovde, Jack has spent his time learning all aspects of home remodeling. He graduated this past June, and while we will miss him around the job sites, we couldn't be prouder of his next step! Jack is moving on to his new profession as a heavy equipment operator. 🛠️🚛

🎉 Big news at Legacy Custom Remodeling! Help us give a warm welcome to Kyle Dorscheid, our new Field Operations Manager!

Kyle is going to be the ultimate connector for our building projects across the Greater Madison area. You’ll see him floating between our office and shop here in Oregon, WI, as well as right on our job sites to ensure everything moves seamlessly from design to completion.

He will be working closely with our project managers, carpenters, subcontractors, and suppliers to coordinate every moving part. For our clients, this means tighter project schedules, smoother communication, and the absolute highest quality craftsmanship on every single custom home remodel.

🏠 Major progress over at the home remodel in Middleton!

🛠️The framing crew has finished up, and the new roof is officially going on this week! 🪵✨ It is awesome seeing the new bedrooms over the garage and the beautiful rear sunroom addition rapidly take shape. Custom framing takes serious craftsmanship, and this structure is looking rock solid. Next up: making it weather-tight! 🌧️🙅‍♂️

🪵 From Chaotic & Aging to Clean & Premium! 🪵

We recently wrapped up this stunning backyard transformation right here in Madison, WI! The original wood deck had served its time, so our team stepped in to demo the old structure and clear the canvas for something built to last generations.

For the new build, we used ultra-durable TimberTech Vintage Collection PVC decking in rich English Walnut, perfectly accented by a Dark Hickory picture-frame perimeter border detail.

The details you can't see: To guarantee longevity through harsh Wisconsin winters, we applied specialized deck tape across the top of all our kiln-dried 2x10 treated framing, blocking out moisture before laying down a completely hidden, seamless fastening system. No exposed screws—just pure comfort.

Long before 1776, American carpenters were transforming raw timber into communities, meeting houses, and homes. Today, as we celebrate a historic 250 years of American independence, we stand proud in the structures they built and the country our military heroes defended.

For two and a half centuries, our military service members have stood guard so that we could build, grow, and thrive in safety. We owe an endless debt of gratitude to our veterans and active-duty heroes. Your sacrifice is the foundation of our freedom.
