Hummingbird moms might be small, but don't let their size fool you; they're mighty when it comes to caring for their young! 💪
The mother hummingbird takes on the FULL responsibility of building the nest, incubating the eggs, and raising the young.
Even though she has to bear the full weight of motherhood on her own, she still raises multiple broods in a nesting season, caring for each one with tender loving care.
She works hard for about a week to construct her nest! The craftsmanship and quality of her nest have awarded her one of the highest nesting success rates of any Neotropical bird that migrates to North America.
