The Casa Feliz Historic Home Museum and its Board of Directors are calling on the Winter Park community to help protect the architectural legacy of James Gamble Rogers II. Their statement, shared below, advocates for preserving the historic homes designed by our founder and the role those homes play in shaping the character, identity, and story of Winter Park.

This Earth Day, team members are joining RLF Senior Architect and resident environmentalist Ron Blair for a walk around Lake Baldwin, sharing insights on the lake as a freshwater system and the mature northside forests that surround it. It's one of the ways we show up together as a team and as part of our community.

That same mindset carries into our work. The built environment plays a significant role in energy use, resource consumption, and long-term environmental impact. Thoughtful design decisions can reduce that impact while supporting healthier, more resilient places for the people who rely on them.

As members of the U.S. Green Building Council for over 20 years and participants in the AIA 2030 Commitment, we continue to align our work with practices that support responsible, high-performing environments.

Today is one day. The responsibility is ongoing.

One week ago, U.S. Army Fort Leonard Wood gathered for the ribbon cutting of General Leonard Wood Community Hospital, a facility a decade in the making, now ready to serve more than 34,000 people across the military community.

Col. Angela Diebal-Lee, GLWCH director and commander, spoke to what the moment meant. "Some believed the hospital would not open during my tenure," she said. The doors are open.

From the crowd to the speakers to the shared sense of purpose, it was clear who this hospital is for. Service members, veterans, and the community that stands with them now have access to modern, accessible healthcare designed to support them through every stage of life.

It also carries forward the legacy of Maj. Gen. Leonard Wood, honoring a history of service that still inspires today.

A moment worth remembering, for the community it was built to serve.

Ninety years of history, now lining the walls of our employee entrance every single day. ✨

The RLF Timeline is officially installed, a visual journey through the people, projects, and relationships that have built this firm since James Gamble Rogers II founded it nine decades ago. From Gamble's vision, to his son Jack Rogers, to Steve Hingtgen, and now Scott Fote, this firm has always been shaped by people who believed in something bigger than themselves.

Seeing it come together after years in the making is something truly special. It's a daily reminder to our team that we inherited something remarkable and that we're responsible for what we add to it.

A huge thank you to Jocelynn White and Studio Fritz for making this a reality, and to our interiors team for their support throughout.

Here's to the next 90. 🎉

Yesterday's ribbon cutting marks the first milestone for the new General Leonard Wood Community Hospital at Fort Leonard Wood, and a significant one at that.

Delivered as a design-build project with JE Dunn Construction, this facility brings modern, high-performance healthcare to the soldiers, families, and civilian employees who depend on it. We're proud to see this facility open its doors to the community it was built to serve.

Winter Park has faced moments like this before.

Many in our community know and love Casa Feliz as a gathering place for weddings, events, and celebrations of Winter Park’s history. When the Rogers-designed landmark was threatened decades ago, the community came together to save it. With the leadership of Jack Rogers, FAIA, then president of RLF and the son of architect James Gamble Rogers II, along with the passionate advocacy of the Friends of Casa Feliz and many community members, the home was carefully relocated across the street and restored. Today, Casa Feliz stands as one of Winter Park’s most cherished historic landmarks.

Now another Rogers design, Merrywood (1939), is part of an important community conversation. The estate was designed by James Gamble Rogers II, founder of RLF, whose work helped shape the architectural character of Winter Park.

That legacy of stewardship continues today. Gamble Rogers’ granddaughter, Betsy Owens, now serves as Executive Director of Casa Feliz, carrying forward the same commitment to preserving the architectural heritage that defines this community.

The future of Merrywood involves many considerations, and thoughtful perspectives exist on all sides. For those interested in learning more about the current discussion and possible paths forward, this recent article from the Winter Park Voice provides helpful context and community viewpoints:

Winter Park’s character has always been shaped by the care its residents show for the places that tell its story.

If you have memories of Casa Feliz, Merrywood, or other historic places in Winter Park, we’d love to hear them.

Merrywood at a Crossroads — Community Meeting Tomorrow

A demolition permit has been filed for Merrywood, the extraordinary 1939 lakefront home at 1020 Palmer Avenue designed by noted architect James Gamble Rogers II. Because the house is listed on the City of Winter Park’s Historic Resources Survey, a 90-day delay before demolition has been triggered—creating an important window to explore preservation solutions.

Tomorrow morning, the Winter Park Historic Preservation Board will meet to begin discussing the path forward.

The Friends of Casa Feliz encourages preservation-minded residents to attend and demonstrate support for finding a thoughtful community solution that preserves this irreplaceable piece of Winter Park’s architectural heritage.

We’re excited to share that RLF has been selected to design the new Atlantic Care Services Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care (PPEC) facility in Winter Park.

This technology-forward, child-centered environment will support medically complex children with high-quality skilled nursing while also integrating STEAM-based learning tailored to each child’s plan of care. The goal is simple: create a place that feels supportive, engaging, and reassuring for both children and their families.

RLF will provide architecture, interior design, engineering coordination, and experiential branding to bring this vision to life. Together with Atlantic Care Services, we’re helping create an exceptional place for extraordinary children and the dedicated caregivers who support them every day.

A great day on the course for a great cause. ⛳️

We loved being part of one of AIA Orlando’s favorite annual traditions, where camaraderie, competition, and community take center stage. The casino-themed tournament brought a fun, unexpected twist to a classic day on the greens.

We’re proud to support AIA Orlando as a premium hole sponsor and to champion the next generation of architects and designers.
