Triangle Palm aka Dypsis Decaryi

Produces an amazing three-sided shape. From Madagascar and will can reach 25 to 35 feet tall, so plant it in an area that will accommodate its growth. Eclectic is the word I would use for this palm. Likes a full sun location in your landscape but will tolerate partial shade. Cold hardy. Likes a well-draining soil. Cold hardy in the warm parts of zone 9. It can tolerate short periods of 27 to 30 degrees. Likes a regular watering schedule. Remove dead fronds. Said to be non-toxic to pets and livestock. Likes regular fertilizer feedings - spring, summer, and fall. Use a slow-release palm fertilizer that contains potassium and micronutrients. Remember to follow the manufacturer's instructions for application. Mine made it through this cold snap! ! !

Asparagus Foxtail Fern aka Asparagus Densiflorus "Myers"
Considered to be a perennial evergreen. Has a fine texture and grows in a stiff upright way. Can reach 1 to 2 feet tall with a width of 2 to 4 feet at maturity. Its stems are woody and have a sharp spine. Produces a white or pale pink flower on occasion. It is inconspicuous. Also produces a bright red berry. This is considered a low-growing fern. Considered to be a fast grower with a fine texture. Use it as a border plant or ground cover. Makes a nice accent plant in a rock garden. Use it as a slow-growing unclipped hedge. Can be grown in containers indoors in a bright sunny location. Works well in mass plantings or as a ground cover. Plant under that large shade tree, too! Cold hardy zone 9. Moderately drought-tolerant but like all other plants, it prefers a regular watering schedule. Tolerant of salt. Fast growth. Likes well-draining soil but can handle occasional wet soil. Berries can be toxic to pets. Classified as deer-resistant. Fertilize in spring and summer with a good slow-release granular 10-10-10 plant food. Remember to follow the manufacturer's instructions for application.

Orange Justicia aka Flame Justicia aka Orange Flame

Justicia grows is a perennial that grows in an upright fashion. It's an evergreen shrub that will grow 3 to 6 feet tall with a spread of 2 to 3 feet. Produces 6-inch-long, dark green leaves and upwardly facing plumes of tubular, slightly fragrant flower clusters in orange which appear from early summer until fall. Stems appear in the center and grow upwards for several feet. Its rapid growth makes Justicia ideal for use as a foundation or mass planting. It can also be grown in containers. You can even train it to grow on an attractive espalier. You can even use it in front of a tall green shrubbery border to create a color accent throughout the warm months. Cut your clusters and put them in a vase - they make an excellent cut flower. Cold hardy zone 9. Poor salt tolerance in soil. Moderately drought tolerant once established but does prefer a regular watering schedule with well-draining soil. Root hardy in mild winters. Providing a vivid orange display in the landscape. You can grow in containers and place them on your patios, pool deck, or porch. Grow in your lanai or indoor your home. When growing in-home keep out of the drafts from the ac/heating vent. Remember to fertilize in spring, summer, and fall with a good slow-release granular tropical fertilizer. Also, follow the manufactures instructions for application. ! !

Coontie Palm aka Zamia Pumila
The coontie is not a palm but a palm-like cycad plant. Produces beautiful green leaves and has a fine-textured look. Not too prickly, so it is safe to plant in areas where there is foot traffic. It can reach 2 to 3 feet tall and 3 feet wide at maturity. Considered to be a small shrub. Easy maintenance and very hardy plant. Slow growing - low maintenance. Perfect for dry areas, cold-tolerant, and works well in both full sun and/or partial shade. Surround tall shade trees or palms. Line a drive or walkway. Used it as a foundation plant in a small mixed planting bed. Use it as a border for your patio or patch. You can make a small hedge in that tiny area under that window. You can also put it in a container and place it on your patio, inside your pool cage, or lanai to add that tropical look. Cold hardy zone 9. Drought- tolerant but like most other plants prefers a regular watering schedule. Moderately salt-tolerant. Deer resistant. Toxic to pets, so plant in an area not accessible to your little munchers. Moderately frost-tolerant. Fertilize in the spring, summer, and fall with a high-quality slow-release granular fertilizer. Remember to follow the manufacturer's instructions for application. ! !

Magnificent Croton
It has large and broad leaves that are green, pink, yellow, orange, burgundy, and deep purple. Love a sunny place in your landscape.
Magnificent Croton is a compact and dense shrub when young, but grows leggy and rounded as it matures. At maturity can reach 4 to 7 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide. And I have seen some that are larger. Make sure you plant your Magnificent in a place that will allow it to spread. Cold Hardy in zone 9. Croton is frost tender and in many cases will not survive freezing temps for long periods of time. Winter damage will cause leaves to fall off. But the good news is they should return as soon as spring arrives. At maturity, the Magnificent becomes more drought-tolerant, but it prefers a regular watering schedule. It is somewhat salt-tolerant and can handle a minimal salty wind. They are said to be deer-resistant. The Magnificent grows well in containers and will make a great colorful tropical addition to any porch, patio, pool cage, or pool deck. The Magnificent can also provide a splash of color inside your home. Find a bright light location that does not get that scorching summer sun and is out of the way of any AC/heat vents to put one or two. Remember the Magnificent is a tropical, and like humidity, so it may need to be misted when grown inside your home. The Magnificent is just one of the beautiful croton that we have available at Big League Garden Center.
