'Your garden must be beautiful' is something that is said to flower farmers often. You would think people who grow flowers MUST have beautiful gardens.
Following that same idea then contractors should have beautifully finished homes and mechanics should have pristine cars. And if you have ever been to the homes of a flower farmer, contractor, or mechanic then you know that this thought is usually far from the truth.
Sometimes flower farmers cut flowers for themselves or leave a few behind to enjoy.
For most of us, flowers that are left behind aren't worth putting in a bouquet or maybe, they popped up too fast.
And, the flowers we do cut, are cut WELL before they open up for us to use as landscaping.
One day I will figure out how to have a large produce garden, cut flower farm and beautiful landscape.🥰
Until then I will give you a glimpse of what flowers around my house look like after being cut into for bouquets😜

🌟 November highlights 🌟
1. I took part in a month long challenge to make all of our bread from scratch. Sounds excessive, right?! That’s exactly what why I decided to try it! Now I am obsessed and am loving the challenge of new recipes. So far I have made artisan bread, sandwich loaves, Hawaiian rolls, sweet rolls, cinnamon rolls and English muffins. Cinnamon rolls are the winner so far!
2. We lost our first chicken 😭 . We still aren’t sure what attacked it but have been monitoring our girls more closely during the day. Pasture raised chickens is great but the reality is that they are constantly being preyed on
3. 1700 tulips are in raised beds and will probably ALL come in the same week in November 🤪
4. 200 garlic cloves are in the ground and they will comfy in spring/summer next year
5. Homemade bonebroth is now a regular occurrence and a lot easier to make than I anticipated

Hi friends! I am Lauren 💁🏼‍♀️ and I am so glad you are here and following along on this flower farming and homesteading adventure! In January of this year, I became a SAHM to our sweet baby girl and decided in April that I was going to start a small flower farming business. Flower farming with an infant is a wonderful idea, I highly recommend it 🤣🥴.

Recently I was asked, ‘why flowers? Why not farm something else?’. I get it, flowers die and you can’t eat them. It seems like a no win product. But have you ever felt the magic and instant nostalgia when you catch a scent of a certain flower?! In a moment you are back on your grandmothers front porch smelling peonies or feeling the same joy you felt on your wedding day. That! That feeling that you get when memories come flooding back as soon as you smell a flower is exactly why I picked flowers.

Living in a farm community can be funny.
We have never met any of the men that farm the land behind our home but we feel like we know them. I know a lot of their families, we exchanged early morning and late night waves from spring to fall. They have waved to our daughter whenever they are here from when she was trying to stand and now she is trying to follow them out into the field saying ‘hi tractor’, ‘hi truck’ and ‘faaaaahh-mur’ (farmer). Sad that harvest time has come but looking forward to all the excitement you’ll bring our little family in the spring. Thanks BR&J Farms!!
