Our chickens are free ranged & fed with organic/non gmo kalmbach layer feed. They get all sorts of kitchen scraps and scratch grains as well. We no longer have any roosters & eggs are collected daily, come get some! 🤗

Roosters are not the enemy. They protect those under their care. They will sacrifice themselves to save the flock. He doesn’t back down, not one step, even if it cost his life. He has a family to protect and he’ll sacrifice everything for them. It’s the embodiment of “My life before theirs” ❤️🧑‍🌾

This remarkable photo was made by Shasta Schlitt - BYC (BackYardChickens) of her rooster, Jay, defending a hen against an unlucky hawk. Unfortunately, the hawk didn't survive the attack. Jay had some puncture wounds but is OK.
