🚨SIGNIFICANT SEVERE WEATHER POTENTIAL FRIDAY‼️ for possible STRONG EF2+ TORNADOES 🌪️, Baseball ⚾️ Size Hail, and Severe Wind Gusts 💨 greater than 60 mph winds.
The SPC has upgraded Friday to an Enhanced Risk (Level 3 of 5) for severe weather, anticipating the potential for a widespread severe weather event across parts of the Plains and into the Missouri Valley.
The environment is expected to support supercell thunderstorms, with strong wind shear and increasing instability in place. Storms will be capable of producing damaging winds, large to very large hail (possibly over 2 inches), and tornadoes 🌪️ — including the potential for strong tornadoes (EF2+).
Thunderstorms are expected to develop late Friday afternoon along a cold front across the southern and central Plains, then track northeast into the Lower and Mid-Missouri Valley through the evening and overnight hours.
📍Greatest concern currently: parts of Oklahoma, Kansas, and Missouri, though severe storms may extend from Texas northward toward the Upper Midwest.
Storms may initially form as discrete supercells capable of producing tornadoes and very large hail, before gradually organizing into a larger line of severe storms Friday night, allowing the severe threat to continue into the Ozarks and Mid-Mississippi Valley overnight.
⏰ Timing: Late Friday afternoon → Friday evening → Overnight Friday night
We’ll continue to monitor the details as we get closer, but Friday is shaping up to be a potentially significant severe weather day across the central U.S.
Stay weather aware.
