🏜️ On July 31, 1867, a cavalry force of four companies of the 6th Cavalry set up Fort Griffin on a plateau overlooking the Clear Fork of the Brazos River.

⭐ It was first called Camp Wilson, then renamed for Gen. Charles Griffin.

🍺 Below the fort sat a rowdy town known as The Flat, or Hidetown, crowded with soldiers, buffalo hunters, and cowboys.

🐂 From 1876 to 1885, thousands of longhorns traveled the Great Western Cattle Trail through Fort Griffin on the way to Dodge City, Kansas. In May 1881, the Army abandoned the fort.

Have you ever walked the ruins of a Texas frontier fort?

🦖 Dinosaur tracks in Dinosaur Valley State Park near Glen Rose, Texas, come from about 113 million years ago.

🌊 Acrocanthosaurus, a two-legged carnivore, left deep three-toed tracks with long claw marks. The much larger Sauroposeidon, a plant-eating giant, has also been recorded at the park.

☀️ The tracks run along the Paluxy River, and in a severe drought more of them appeared than usual.

Have you ever put your foot in a dinosaur track?
