Is this you too? I'm appreciating having lunch alone so much right now - something most take for granted. I literally had to enforce in though (with mom guilt).. today so far has been taking son to band, Costco shopping ("clubbing"), and avoiding a call from my other son to pick him up across town. Better get this over with - I've got to go cook dinner. 😅🙄

They say let kids explore their food. He explored it onto the high chair, the floor, the dog, and somehow the ceiling.

It was a smoothie bowl. Banana, berries, a little spinach. I made it pretty. He made it modern art.

The experts say mess is how toddlers learn about food. If that's true, he has a PhD in smoothie.

I will be finding blueberry on things until Christmas.

What's the messiest food your kid has ever explored?

The baby fell asleep in the car, so dinner tonight is a granola bar from under the seat. It's been there since summer. It's fine.

Some nights the whole plan falls apart at 4pm. You can wake the baby and go cook, or you can sit in a parking lot and let everyone else figure out the fridge.

I chose the parking lot. No regrets.

For the record, the granola bar was a little soft.

The teenagers will not put the lid back on. I have told them. Many times. So there is a cloche, and the cloche is labeled, in Sharpie, because the verbal approach has failed. I also made a jingle that I can't stop singing.

Does anyone else keep butter on the counter, or is it just us?

Ten pounds of potatoes, prepped for the week. He has his own food. A full bowl of it.

I batch potatoes on Sundays because they're the one cheap thing in this kitchen that everybody will eat without negotiation. Roast a tray for dinner, mash some soft for the toddler, crisp the leftovers with eggs on a morning when nobody slept.

One prep, three meals, no new decisions on a Wednesday.

The cat contributes nothing to this system. The cat has strong feelings about this system.

What's the one thing you prep ahead that actually saves you? I'm always looking to steal a good one.
