The Atlantic hurricane season season officially starts on June 1st, and although NOAA predicts a below-average storm season, it’s time to think about prepping our pools when severe weather is forecast.
Here’s an outline of hurricane tips from NOAA and the Florida Swimming Pool Association (FSPA). Check our website PoolCareOviedo.com for detailed information.
– DO NOT EMPTY THE POOL. Water provides the weight needed to hold the pool in place.
– CHECK POOL DECK DRAINS. Be sure deck drains are clear of debris and direct overflow away from your home.
– BALANCE WATER CHEMISTRY. Add chlorine and algaecide if needed.
– TURN OFF PUMP. Equipment should not run during the storm.
– BRING MOVABLE OBJECTS inside or tie them down. Placing objects in the pool is not recommended.
AFTER THE STORM
– Use a skimmer – not your pool vacuum – to remove debris from the pool.
– Be sure that electrical equipment is dry.
– If electric motor has been exposed to water, it should be checked by a professional.
– Set clocks, timers, etc. and monitor operating systems for a few days.
– Balance the water chemistry.
